So, I got my dress! It’s San Patrick Calais.
I always pictured myself wearing something soft and flowy, and this is definitely that, plus it’s a little unique and non-blingy (like me).
I don’t think I’d seen a picture of of this dress before (and even if I had, the picture on San Patrick’s website doesn’t look much like the dress in real life – I think the model has a petticoat on underneath, and she looks kind of angry!). At the first store I went to though, I saw this sample and was immediately drawn to the soft fabric and the beautiful detail on the bust and hem. Once I tried it on I was sure it was the one!
Despite that (and against all the advice I’ve ever heard about dress shopping…), I kept shopping at a different store. They put me in a different dress (I think it was Marisa 815, though they said it was Watters Tyler…), and then suddenly I was confused… The other dress was beautiful raw-edged silk organza draped on a bias. The sample fit me horribly (see below – totally squeezed into it! In “real life” the dress would be pulled down a few more inches, but the sample was waaay too small, so the bust is above my bust…), but I thought when I had the right size it would really accentuate my figure (also, I’ve lost 30 lbs already, hope to lose about 30+ more in the next 8 months). My consultant kept insisting they didn’t have the dress I had tried on at the other store (the San Patrick), but then a manager came in and was like, yep, we have that! I tried it on again and started crying, it just felt so “special” on me.
The sample is a size 8, whereas I’m an 18, so I anticipate when it fits the waist will be about an inch lower and hit me right at my natural waist (the part of the bodice that should be under the breast is about an inch or so above the bottom of my breasts in these pictures…)
Here’s a picture of the other dress. Again, waaaaaaay too small… (The fullest part of the bust is hitting well above the middle of my breasts, and the part that should be hips is hitting just below my natural waist…), but in “real life” that wouldn’t be the case… The veil I’m wearing in this picture is the one I bought to go with the dress I bought. Simple one layer cathedral length veil.
What do you guys think? Did I make the right decision? I worry a little bit that the dress I bought might make me look a little preggers??? I think when the waist hits me at my natural waist that worry of mine will be gone… I do love how I feel in it! And it’s unique 🙂
