Why would you not have to pay a tax if you live in the county? Is this something he told you?

If it were me, I’d have my brother, uncle, friend, or second cousin twice removed from my great aunt Freda if it would save me $800.

Yeah I am confused about why you’d have to pay sales tax but your brother wouldn’t. That’s not really how sales tax works

The additional cost doesn’t seem odd to me. Where I live, many places have extra fees if you live out of the municipality. These places are usually partially funded by the city/county/etc., so people who live outside the area haven’t paid taxes to support them.

That said McSacrament, $800 does seem like a lot, and I would consider having a resident of the county pay on my behalf. Just make sure to check whether or not your brother’s name would be on all of the venue paperwork. That could make it difficult for you to deal with them, and it could make your brother liable if something were to go wrong.

ETA: There were responses while I was typing. If it really is a sales tax that anyone would have to pay, my point is moot.
