- Wedding: October 2011
I’ve been going to the same guy for my hair for at least 5 years now. He’s amazing. Anyone with curly hair knows how hard it is to find someone who’s good with curls so there was never a doubt in my mind that he would do my hair for the wedding. When I went in for my normal appt in November, I told him all about my date and talked about him coming to the hotel to do my hair and makeup and the same for my bridal party. I asked him what the process was for booking him for my date. He told me not to worry and that they don’t even start booking weddings for the fall until at least February so I should do it when I come in next. Again,I told him several times what my date was and made him write it down. Again,he assured me it would be no problem.
You see where this is going, right?
I go to my appt last night and talk about booking him again since it’s February. He said no problem as he only has one wedding booked so far during the fall. Guess what date that is???? Yup!!!! MY DATE!!! PANIC! I can’t imagine anyone else doing my hair. So there was some terse words said but we were determined to work this out somehow. Basically the only way we can do this is for me to come into the salon at 7 am for him to do my hair before he has to head out to the other girl’s wedding.
I held it together while I was there but when I got to my car, I’m sad to say that for the first time while planning this wedding, I cried.
Now, I get it. This isn’t the end of the world. He’s still going to be doing my hair. And it’s just hair! However, now I have to find someone else to do my make up. I have to have everyone come to the salon now to get them done. Oh and the salon doesn’t even open until 9 so after having my hair done at 7, I’m going to have to figure out something to do for an hour while everyone else comes in. Now I’m not going to have the relaxing morning I envisioned with my BM’s and mother hanging out inthe hotel room, drinking mimosas while getting ready. Now I have to worry about unpredictable Chicago traffic and making sure we can get everyone where they need to go.
I guess the lesson in all of this is make your vendors put it down officially. None of this would have been a problem if he had just let me book all of this in November like I wanted.
