Hi, Bees! Just got engaged a few weeks ago and am IN LOVE with my salt & pepper diamond! I was wondering if anyone here with a black diamond has any cleaning tips. Do black diamonds differ from white diamonds in how they need to be cleaned or maintained? I saw some gorgeous salt & pepper rings on other threads. Also, post pictures of your alternative e-rings! 🙂 I love how much variety there is!

omg, that is SOOOO gorgeous! I love it! Cleaning and maintenance are the same as any other diamond. The only caveat is that some types of inclusions can make a diamond more prone to cracking, and since the salt & pepper effect is due to inclusions, yours is at slightly higher risk of having one of those “need to watch” ones. Any jeweler should be able to tell you if you need to take special care or not.
Do you have a straight top-down pic? I just love this and want to see more of it!!

Good to know. Thank you!! I wondered about that. I’m also considering a brighter rhodium plating for the white gold band. I wonder how often people do this? Here are more pics in brighter lighting. It looks quite different depending on which room of the house i’m in! 🙂

Gorgeous! I’m no jeweler, but I’d guess that they only precaution would be not to use a sonic cleaner because your stone has more inclusions and might be prone to cracking. Otherwise, I think it should be the same.
I’ve got a black onyx and since light just reflects instead of bouncing around inside the stone, it’s not as noticible when its dirty. I just give my ring a quick rub with a toothbrush and some dish soap when it’s looking a little dirty.

I don’t have a salt and pepper diamond. I just have a regular black diamond band. When I clean it I usually use my little diamond pen cleaner or an old worn out soft toothbrush and dish soap and I very gently give it a little scrub and rinse it. I do this at least once a week. I treat it and my white diamonds exactly the same and so far so good 🙂

I don’t think the diamond’s strength is compromised by inclusions unless they reach the surface, or are crack-like in nature. If the surface of the stone is smooth I think it’s as strong as any other diamond.
Gorgeous ring btw, I love the low setting and the shape of the diamond.

I started designing my upgrade for 20 years in March I believe. Got it in May. I really love salt and pepper diamonds. I found a setting I liked on eBay and asked a jeweler in India I purchased another ring from if he could make it heart shaped, add a halo and make it two toned gold. I love it it is white and rose gold

I love your rings they are beautiful! Salt & Pepper is my favorite they’re all so different and unique, as for cleaning I want to get that pen dappledduschess mentioned.
I got mine from Mossnstone on etsy I wanted something simple but still unique with the stone. Mine is set in 14k rose and I love it! My fiance loves rocks in general he collects different types of stones so he really liked salt and pepper as well 😊
