I am a 35-36 in bust and 27-28 in waist.  I was generally a size 8 in Casablanca, or a size 6 in DB or JCrew.

I did however, had to buy a C cup longline bra when in fact I am an A cup in real life.  It helped fill out the top when I could not myself!

@MrsPhilly:  the samples I tried on were super huge too! I’m excited to finally be able to go in and try my dress on in my size. The samples were like 10 sizes too big and clamped like crazy. i don’t think my dress is in yet, so we will see

I tried on a sample size 10 and bought a sample size 10.  I bought the sample at a sample sale.  Honestly the hips were a tad tight (if I let the dress out the alterations lady who was there said it would only be like 1/4 inch let out) and I’ve been working out to lose weight so I’m determined to just work a harder to firm up a bit.

Here is my sample:

@Dixonswife:  Depends on the designer. I had a designer that I measured at a 14. I had another designer I was a size 8. I know that doesn’t exactly answer your question but I hope it helps. I wear street size 10 and I fit in a sample 10 (above picture/post) and my dress is a Maggie Sottero.

If you go to a reputable store, they should ALWAYS measure you before you order, and they’ll check the designer’s sizes because every designer uses different measurements. If they don’t measure you, don’t buy it from that store.

@MrsPhilly:  Those are gorgeous! Normally I’m a huge Maggie fan but that 2nd dress is stunning. Both are very similar but the 2nd has more detailing at the bottom. Love it!

I’m a size 6 and found a real difference between bridal shops. One bridal shops had all size 6 whereas another had all size 12 – it was really hard to tell what the size 12 dresses would really have looked like when fitted.

The dress I wound up buying was in store as a size 8 sample, and the sample was small so it almost fit. I have no doubt that this influenced my decision because I knew that my dress would look like the dress I saw in the mirror. They still ordered me a size 6 though, after taking my measurements, and I hope it fits!!

@MrsPhilly:  I have the Tracey! 🙂 LOVE it! Can’t wait for it to come in, in my size. The sample size was a 12 and I am a size 2.
