I am the planner of the two, and my guy is a visual person. I know that there are millions of wedding checklists (which I have) but I really want him to see how much money we are saving by looking at some sample budgets – say 20K, 25K and 30K wedding budgets. Also I want to be able to point out that for instance, flowers typically cost between $xx and $xx, but since we are not having flowers we are saving X dollars (he’s an artist – please help me!)
Does anyone know where to find sample wedding budgets in different ranges and how much money vendors typically cost – or their range?

Hey! On the main blog site, click on the little "features" tab and go down to "real budgets." There are several there!

No problem! And don’t be embarrassed — they haven’t done one in quite a while, so it’s not surprising that you weren’t aware of the feature.

I also highly recommend using theKnot.com to get *started*…not as easy to maintain…What we did was first find out the average cost of a wedding in our area ($27K) and what my parents could contribute ($6K). We looked @ $20K breakdown in the knot but talked ourselves down to $15K. We are following the Knot pretty closely, except for a couple things. For example, I am making all my paper products & veil & part of desserts, and we are splurging on the reception site. We are also not spending as much on dinner, which I think our families will totally understand, since they are not that "fancy"!
Some things are very hard to follow….For example, my budget for my wedding band was only $150.00. Since we are very open about that stuff, we decided to get a slightly less fancy e-ring and a nicer band…with my wedding band budget coming from the e-ring budget…Good luck!

here’s my budget:
$150-flowers-DIY fresh red roses
$240 hair and make-up (my friend’s doing mine free!!)
$1000 photographer (friend)
$1175 church (non-negotiable)
$300 gown (i’m doing sample sales and using my $500 gift certificate)
Free veil, tiara, gloves, favors (my mom bought)
$14,000 reception at $246/head
$242- 2night for my 14 members of my family, I’m using a 3 BR apartment to house them, me and my bro will split cost
$50 for car (using my car I’ll put ribbons on my red beamer and hire my co-worker to drive us)
FREE violinist (someone I found who does it semi-professionaly in exchange his friends will observe at my office and work)
$16 DIY headdress, guestbook and baskets
I’m very frugal but it allows for my big splugre, my biggest splurge is reception I am inviting only closest family and friends so I can afford it to be very elegant and beautiful because I only have 50-60 guests
even if there’s a recommended budget you can still save big, if you put your mind to it, and spend where you think it’s important, for me church and reception are most important
