(Closed) sand???

I think it is technically illegal to bring it into the USA but whether or not it is confiscated at customs is another matter. And I guess it would be up to you to decide if you wanted to risk declaring it or not. I would also check if it is legal to remove the sand from Mexico as well. I know it is illegal to remove some shells and volcanic (black) sand from Hawaii and sand from Egypt.

The US customs website says sand in small quantities is ok, so it would be up to the mexican authorities.  I don’t think I would try to fill the bottles there- Maybe bring a small ziplock bag or tupperware container.  If it gets confiscated at least you still have the bottles and can use craft sand or something.

@shel_lee_1:  I dont know about Mexico specifially but in NZ it is illegal to remove sand as it is for most pacific islands…but i am not sure if you would get stopped taking it through customs….

If everyone is bringing home their own tiny container it would probably make it through.
