We have been to Secrets The Vine in Can Cun for a vacation and we LOVED it. Can’t wait to go back and would suggest it to anyone. I have only seen the outside of a Sandals resort, which was in the Bahamas. I haven’t actually stayed at one.
The two us, are going away and getting married.
We DID think about going back to Secrets but then felt like we would be jipping ourselves out of seeing a new destination or having a new experience.
The plus about Sandals is they seem the have these great packages with things you can choose like flowers, cake, etc. Secrets/Dreams have packages too but they seem really limited.
Which resort brand do you think are better for a wedding? And where would you suggest?
I welcome anyone that has been married or attended a wedding at either and/or those that have traveled to beach destinations that are tropical.

There are so many AM resort properties to choose from and in comparison to Sandals you get a consistency of service whether you’re in the Mayan Riviera, Pacific Mexico or the Dominican Republic. Some Sandals are Sandals in name alone. We’ve stayed at both Dreams and Secrets locations and each one is unique, different and lovely in their own way but while maintaining similar formatting (restaurants, entertainmens ideals etc.)
We are getting married at Dreams Puerto Vallarta because it’s in a gorgeous setting. Pacific beach steps from every ocean-front room and the jungle setting around the resort gives it a lush, tropical feeling.
Each AM resort location will have a slightly different package for weddings. I spent a lot of time combing over the wedding brochures. The meal choices will change, as do details like venue and cake.
AM Resorts has an amazing program they’ve set up for travel agents allowing for them to become Master Agents. An AM Master Agent has had to demonstrate a knowledge of each property. I’m working with one out of Chicago and she has visited 95% of the properties so she can let you in on those little things the website and bruchures don’t touch upon. Trust me, if she wasn’t as amazing as she is, I would find a local travel agent (in Canada). I’ll message her e-mail to you in p/m.
I will finish by stating this. We have been to Puerto Vallarta, Huatulco, Puerto Aventuras and will be going to Nueva Vallarta. We’ve only ever stayed at Secrets/Dreams Resorts. There are times I wonder what a Barcelo or Sandals would be like but then I think, I only get one of these vacations a year and y’know what… Why would I chance staying at anywhere other then an AM resort where I know my trip is guaranteed to be AMAZING!

I’m not an all inclusives type of person, but I did get to go to Dreams in the Dominican Republic on a business trip (yep, I said business) and if was very, very lovely. Food was excellent, service excellent and the resort/beach is beautiful.

Thanks to you both!!
Haha. As I type this Fiance just asked, “Are you tempted to return to Secrets The Vine?” LOL.
I think we are going to stay with the AM family and choose a different location. I’m so excited!!

@Coral99: Please do yourself a favor and go onto Trip Advisor and read the comments about Sandals in the Bahamas! I’m so glad I did, because I was thinking of going there. Now it’s a definate “No”.

@CaymanGirl: Thanks for this. Just yesterday I was chatting with a gf & we were talking about how the Bahamas didn’t impress us. She’s been about 7 times, various islands. I will definitely look.
I was thinking Sandals La Toc in Grand Exhuma but I’ll have to really research again. It’s rated a top luxury hotel but who knows.
Where are you getting/did you get married?

@Coral99: Are you on facebook? If so search for” Grand Cayman Beach Weddings” by a woman named Joy Basdeo. She has packages and her beach weddings look beautiful. If it’s just the two of you there is a secret cove that looks so romantic.
I haven’t been to alot of Carribbean islands, but I love Grand Cayman. It’s safe and there are fun things to do. It’s beyond beautiful. This is what I hope to do if I can convince the family to go…..
I was thinking of an all inclusive resort but would rather give people a choice of hotels, and they can book excursions etc . I’m not one to want to lay by a pool for 4 days.
Anyway, let me know what you think.

Don’t go with Sandles Monetego Bay (Jamacia) They are right next to the airport. I saw it from the plane. Like 49 ft away. I went to Couples Tower Isle in December. It was amazing, so pretty. They rent out the island for weddings, and it is so beautiful! Really good food and drinks too. All inclusive, includes lots of activities and scuba, etc etc.

i also went here at 13 http://www.xpuha-palace.com I probably can’t remember it as well, but they did have some cool activities too, and a little blue lagoon with manatees, and really bright blue ocean and great sand.

We went to Secrets Maroma Beach in Mexico for our honeymoon and it was incredible. We looked at reviews on tripadvisor first and were so impressed when we got there. The beach is breathtaking, the grounds of the hotel are immaculate and the food was some of the best that I had ever had. We were gifted the trip (out of our budget) otherwise I would go back to that resort every year if I could. if you do go, make sure to go to the spa, it was one of my favourite memories from the trip and I’m pretty sure it was included in the honeymoon package.
Also if you go, remember that room service is included and if there’s something you loved at one of the a la cartes but you feel like staying in your room, then call room service and order it from the restaurant. I ended up with one of the appetizers as a late night snack most nights 🙂

We will be going to a Sandal resort in Jamaica for a week for our honeymoon. I feel like they are very honeymoon/wedding friendly. Although I haven’t been to a Sandals resort, I do know people who have gone there for their honeymoon and loved it! We also went through a Sandals travel agent that we found at a bridal show in the area. The best part was that we didn’t get charged more for using her because Sandals already pays her for this. She was able to get us deals and give us tips about the rooms and what not that we wouldn’t be able to get ourselves if we just went through their website. I do have a good friend that got married at a Couples resort in Jamaica. I saw her pictures and they’re stunning. I do believe that they are a little cheaper than Sandals as well. Good luck & I hope this helps!!

I went to Dreams Tulum (Mexico) for a destination wedding and had an amazing time. 🙂 The bride and groom were very happy too. They had a lovely wedding ceremony on the shoreline and their own restaurant reserved for their guests to have dinner after. I have seriously considered going back there for my honeymoon, but we decided on Jamaica a long time ago, lol.
It was a beautiful trip, great food (coffee did suck though), very clean, polite staff, lots to do on and off-site (they do pool games and events every night – there was always something going on in the evening!) and everyone had a fabulous time. I would recommend it time and again.

I’ve been planning mine at Dreams Villamagna and no complaints.
