kimchipizza :  No experience but the SB courthouse is so gorgeous!!

I’m kinda confused…you want to have a wedding with only 5 people present but then have “lots” of people from the East Coast come to your beach party afterwards? Not cool. I would not fly across the country to not be able to see someone get married and then hang out with all of the other people who weren’t special enough to see the ceremony at a beach party.

Sorry I’m from the UK but had to Google the courthouse and omg it’s stunning!! If I could do a wedding at less cost at a London courthouse I would but to compare this is what the UK ones are like!! (Attached) it’s literally usually a concrete building with some of grandmas dining chairs in a magnolia room!!! 😂😂

This looks like a beautiful setting (and very similar to ones I viewed in Italy!).

I do agree you need to invite your guests to the ceremony (atleast the ones travelling!) But maybe set a nice number your comfortable with. We set our limit to 30 people which felt nice it’s now 40 but that’s another story. You can then always have people who are fairly local come to the evening!

kimchipizza :  A Santa Barbara courthouse wedding is a little different than one in, say, Sacremento. The building and grounds are as gorgeous as any church I’ve been in. So what if there’s no music and the ceremony is shorter? For a good friend or close family member, I would definitely travel to attend your wedding + beach reception (assuming it’s properly hosted).

kimchipizza :  nothing constructive to say other than I’m super jelly and love love love SB. You should scrap the beach party and have your reception up the road at Pea Soup Andersens 😜

kimchipizza :  My brother got married at the Santa Barbara Courthouse. He only had close family there and the ceremony took place outside with a judge. Only about 5 people were allowed to be near them during the short ceremony. Everyone else had to stand further away, so I didn’t hear anything. I don’t totally know why, but that’s how it was. Is this the ceremony without a paid reservation you’re talking about?

Also, I’d recommend not doing anything on the beach in Santa Barbara. It’s gross and the homeless have their tents and sleeping bags all along the beach. I live across from the beach here and walk my dog by it every day, see weddings all the time and it’s just not very nice.

kimchipizza :  I got married at my local courthouse which is also very beauitful! We had 13 guests, went to dinner after, then the next day we had a big party and invited 70 people! We had people fly in from out of state to attend, and not all of those people were present for the actual ceremony. People were excited to celebrate with us, but everyone on the bee scoffs at the idea of having reception only invites.

kimchipizza :  It may have been the specific judge’s preference, I’m not sure. But it was kind of pointless for anyone else to be there since we were told to get further away. We were just chatting while the ceremony was going on because we couldn’t hear anyways and there was nothing else to do.

kimchipizza :  Instead of a beach party, I would have a nice lunch in local restaurant.
