I also have a sapphire ring, similar to the one posted by the OP with a midnight blue stone (oval with three small diamonds either side). I wanted one because my mum had one and because I love blue. Oh, and when it catches the light it looks like it has stars in it.
I would go for it and not let other people’s opinions bother you 🙂

Just thought i would update you ladies on this ring, he says he cant afford the one i chose originally (because i want it sooner and i had another choice i love equally in mind thats cheaper) so i have gone with my second choice i love it just as much and have tried it on and keep going back to the store to visit it i just want it so much so i thought i would share it with you all =]
Obviously i am getting a sapphire stone instead of a ruby but i am just happy i have made up my mind, told my family where to shove it and i know hes going to purchase it soon, im still waiting and my timeline says he has up until september to propose (his timeline) but this morning he let slip it could be sooner eeeeeek!!! im super excited =]

I was thinking of a shapire but changed to a blue diamond cause I liked the color and all the saphires I found looked black.
I went with blue because I love blue. And frankly, if someone doesnt like it I don’t really care. For those who want diamonds then thats fine, but nowadays you can have whatever you want. Although, to be fair, back in the old days you will find a lot of rings that aren’t diamonds for engagement rings. And some women didn’t have any at all.
