I love my sapphire engagement ring!! It is a natural 3.1 deep blue sapphire in a bezel setting that is rose gold! My fiance had it designed and we just recently designed my sapphire wedding band! Cannot wait to see the two together!

I have known for a very long time (since before I met my Fiance, a few boyfriends ago lol) that I didn’t want a traditional diamond.

I actually thought i wanted a pink sapphire for a long time, but as I’ve gotten older I decided I wanted to go with the more classic traditional sapphire. Its very royal and up until the 12th century sapphires were the traditional engagement stone, and I love all things renaissance, so it was perfect for me 🙂

Wanted to share my sapphire engagement ring story.

I spent literally every spare minute on wedding bee and price scope trying to find the perfect ring but it literally it found me!

I started off trying on diamond engagement rings but I have really chubby fingers and even diamonds within my budget (£2000) looked small and just blaa! To add to this unfortuantely my finger is a bit mis-shapen because of a car accident when I was younger so I was a bit paranoid about finding the right ring for me.

My fiance’s friends wife had a beautiful round sapphire halo with diamonds on the shank, the wedding ring fitted perfectly under it and I decided I wanted something similar. This made the quest even more difficult because I felt like I had to choose an engagement ring and a wedding ring together- phew!

Basically I dragged my fiance round every shop in the city I live and the city I grew up in. I really wanted a coloured stone and in every jewellers there was the choice of 6 rings- it was so frustrating. I loved cushion cuts halos but they didn’t suit my finger and the ones in my price range were very small.

Eventually after looking at etsy- sarah laurie and etsy precious I decided I wanted a oval halo with a peach sapphire, which was within budget. I loved the ones with filligree on the side. I also loved the idea of cornflower blue sapphires. Ideally I wanted platinum but I was told I would only get white gold within my budget and I really didnt want that, I am quite clumsy and thought it would rub off really easy. I loved the look of rose gold and morganite too, but had never seen it in real life and didn’t want to risk getting it made when I was so unsure. It was getting to the point I would have to get it made and I really didn’t want that because I didn’t know that much about getting a ring made and I was worried I wouldn’t like it when I saw it.

A bit of a lifeline was a jewellers in the town I live, I tried on an oval halo setting that was smaller than I wanted and didn’t have diamonds on the shank. The size I wanted was 10x8mm. Well, she said that, in white gold, with a sapphire would be £4000 and suggested semi precious stones such as aquamarine. I felt stumped. £4000 was double my budget and there was no way we could afford it!

So, the final stop for me was Glasgow that has a beautiful arcade full of jewellers. Literally saw it in the first shop, which was full of coloured stones in the wedding. Myself and my fiance felts like we had died and gone to heaven!

Well, i picked 2 rings to view, a rose gold morganite and the one below. I was busy studying the morganite and discussing the budget. Then I picked up the sapphire oval one. Seeing them side by side I realised I loved the dark sapphire too. This sapphire was alive with gorgeous hints of purple. And, it had the beautiful rope detail around the sides. I also loved the sunken setting of the sapphire. Only thing is the one I loved was £4250!! No way!

Well, then a miracle happened, the jeweller said he could offer it to us £2800. We literally didn’t try to bargain with him because at full budget we literally couldn’t afford it. Still, £800 is alot of money but I felt such an emotional connection to the ring and I knew it was mine. The idea of a light coloured sapphire was out the window! Then the jeweller said it was platinum and I nearly fainted! So my advice is, bargain with them, you never know their final price!

The final thing was the wedding ring. I asked him if the wedding ring would fit under the oval shape. He then went to the window and put a wedding band beside the ring. It was like a key in a lock. He then said we could custom design the wedding band to make it match more exactly by adding the rope detail. I wanted to jump up and down on the seat and sign on the dotted line!

Since then alot of people have said it is like Kate Middletons ring but I think it is very different. Suppose it is a compliment!

Well here it is, my 1.35 carat sapphire with 0.4 carat diamonds.

Wow, such gorgeous rings on here!!! I love the vintage settings with blue sapphires. I have a white sapphire set. I love the look of sapphires, and how they are almost as hard as diamonds. Also, they are reasonably priced, which I appreciate!

Art deco white sapphire split shank ring. Square, round and baguette cuts!

@Gemimapuddlequack:  Nice story! That’s a gorgeous ring, too. I like your setting way better than the Diana ring.

I don’t really like diamond that much. My husband took me to a jour jewelry to custom made mine. So we have the ring designed by us. I picked natural eye cleanse, vivid ceylon sapphires. Three stone style with eternity sapphire band. The wedding band was from Israel. What do you guys think?

@ChefDori:  You will notice  I have a high-ish post count.  The number that compliment rings, I can count on one hand.  Not because I don’t like lots of the rings I see, but more because I’m a guy, and I fawn more over beautiful suits, stunning ties, and lovely tweeds, than I do over jewelery.  I mention all this by way of pointing out that, for me to comment on a ring, is a truly rare event.  Having made the context clear, I will now comment on your Claddagh ring:

DAMN!  You may well come in second to the ring I designed for my wife (which will, of course, always be in first place, as far as I’m concerned).  And, since it is also a sapphire centre stone, here it is:

Wow! All the sapphires are SO LOVELY! I’ve just joined the sapphire club myself! Fell in love with this antique 1920’s green sapphire ring on etsy, even though it wasn’t at all what I thought I was looking for–but I just couldn’t get it out of my head. It’s being shipping tomorrow [we just ordered it yesterday!], so right now all I have are pictures of it from etsy.

I LOVE all the sapphires on this thread! I’ll be joining the sapphire club next month when I get this AMAZING ring to replace my original e-ring! I was actually looking at moissanite when I stubled across this one on etsy. I was instantly blown away and ordered it that same night!

My original e-ring was a diamond, even though I told DH (then BF) that I didn’t care about the stone being a diamond. He comes from a pretty traditional family and thought e-rings HAD to be diamonds! Don’t worry, I’ve shown him the light and now I can’t wait to have this baby on my finger!
