Hello.
Trying to decide on a style of engagement ring and I am debatingif I should take a more nontraditional approach. Any thoughts on a sapphire engagement ring? Is it too non-traditional? Is it ok to march to beat of your own drum or should it be saved for something like a milestone anniversary?
Thank you!
GG

I think that ring is gorgeous!! I don’t think there is anything wrong with a sapphire engagement ring or any nontraditional ring. I have a sapphire wedding ring and I love it. :]

Plenty of people have sapphire engagement ring so I doubt you’ll stand out much. I would have brought a sapphire engagement ring if I didn’t fall in love with the way blue diamonds look.

I have one! I think sapphires are the most common for engagement rings, next to diamonds. Although I do sometimes wish I had a sparkly diamond.

If it’s traditional enough for the British monarchy (Kate Middleton and Princess Diana), I think it’s traditional enough for us ๐

My ring is three sapphires, two blue and one white, and I have never thought of it as non-traditional! Rings themselves haven’t even been traditional that long, and diamonds even less time. Do what makes you happy!

No way ๐ I think the more you look for sapphire engagement rings too, the more you start to see them around!

I wanted a sapphire or ruby e-ring (FI surprised me with a diamond) and I kind of wish I had one!!! My mother got me a sapphire ring for my birthday (6 months before I got engaged) so it might have been awkward if Fiance also got me a sapphire ring, but I definitely plan to get a sapphire band to go with the sapphire ring and probably a ruby set in the future too! Who cares what other people think, get what you love!

I have a green sapphire ring. Historically, I believe, sapphires are actually more traditional that diamonds. They also symbolize loyalty which I think is a great symbolism for an engagment ring.

@GG_Vega:
I love sapphires so I think your ring is gorgeous. Don’t worry about what is traditional, choose what you like.
Blue sapphires are traditionallly a fifth anniversary stone, so that is what I am getting for my vow renewal. Blue sapphire engagement rings are actually back in style because of Kate and William’s engagement.
