@GG_Vega: I think that ring is GORGEOUS, and perfectly appropriate and traditional. Personally, I love diamonds, but if for whatever reason I had not gotten my diamond engagement ring, I would have chosen a sapphire. They are natural gems, stunningly beautiful, my birthstone, and Princess Diana and Princess Kate have worn them for goodness sake! Go for it!!!

@GG_Vega: I have a sapphire engagement ring and haven’t regretted it for a second. HOLY CRAP, that ring you have pictured is absolutely stunning. I say go for it! It’s nice to stand out in a crowd full of white stones! 🙂

I adore sapphire e-rings. My mum had one, my Fmil had one. I have one & it’s beautiful. Jmo but it’s so much prettier and interesting to me than a solitaire diamond. My Fiance took inspiration from Catherine’s/Diana’s ring. He found my e-ring the jubilee year when the UK had royal fever.

WOW, you guys are awesome! Thanks so much for all the feedback.
I never even considered a sapphire ring. I tried it on (just for the fun of it) and fell in love with it. The color is like nothing I’ve seen before.

@GG_Vega: I love my sapphire center stone e-ring! If that’s the gemstone you love, then ask for it! Sure, it’s unique right now, but sapphires have historically been a traditional engagement stone? Many of the Windsors received sapphire engagement rings before Princess Diana, like Princess Alice in the 1930s.

Sapphires are pretty traditional :). They are also in my opinion prettier to look at than the sea of diamonds out there. I of course am partial with a purple color change sapphire as my engagement ring 🙂

I love sapphire center stones for engagement rings. That ring was my exact dream ring!! So beautiful.

I love it, it looks like the Princess Kate/Princess Diana ring! Beautiful!

@GG_Vega: I’ve always seen gemstones (particularly sapphires, rubies, and emeralds) as traditional; NOT diamonds; I always thought that diamond engagement rings were a more recent phenomenon. But, I might be wrong.

This! Diamonds only became the default engagement ring because of some intensive marketing by De Beers in the mid 1900s… when it comes to history, sapphires are probably more traditional than diamonds. It’s why I love mine!

That is gooooooooorgeous! Maybe I’m biased bc sapphire is my birthstone, buuuuut…That is just gorgeous!!! And sapphires are actually technically worth more than diamonds (you know, cuz there isn’t a surplus of those like there are of diamonds). 😀 GET IT! O_O!!!

What’s more traditional than the royals?
They also do rubies:

Pretty much this. Once the royals are doing something, I don’t think it can be edgy or too nontraditional anymore! 😛

I love sapphires! To me, they are just timeless, classic and elegant. I think diamond engagement rings are gorgous too, but I just want something that is a little different.

That ring is sooo gorgeous. Before I got engaged, my only reservation about a potential sapphire ring was that it might clash with some of the colors in my wardrobe…but that hasn’t been a problem at all! It’s a deep, rich blue which, as a PP noted, works really well as a neutral. And my FI’s grandmother is the most conservative lady I know (she’s 90 and never without her bespoke jacket and pearls, bless her heart) and loves the ring, too. Brilliant Earth and James Allen also have a nice selection of sapphires if you’re interested in others, but that ring is perfect!
