- Wedding: April 2013
Hey everyone! I’m super new (first post), but I’ve been a long time reader of all the board discussions on here.
So here’s my story (in a nut shell); I met my fiancé about 7 years ago but we lived across the state from each other, so it took me about a year to ask him out – but knowing that he loved to prank on April Fool’s Day – I wanted until after midnight on April 2nd (so he wouldn’t think I was joking) Anyways, we’ve been living together now for almost 3 years and been engaged for about 1.5 years. We were on a pretty tight income during that time, so we agreed to postpone the rings until we saved up more money – so now our limit for my ring is $1,500 – $2,000.
About 4 years ago, he got me a ring for my birthday which I absolutely fell in love with, but he feels like I should “upgrade” and get something new (no disagreements here) This is what my current ring looks like:
Since fiancé is letting me pick out what I want for my ring and fine w/ the fact that I do NOT want a diamond for a center stone ( no offense to those who do – I just love sapphire and I’m a geology nut, so diamonds aren’t very impressive to me – now padparadscha sapphires on the other hand ;D ) Originally I wanted to put my lab created pad in a white gold setting, but now I have a few other ideas:
Yes, the first ring is from EidelPrecious on etsy.com, I was so excited when I saw it because it reminded me of a very (very) pale pad sapphire. It’s a peach sapphire w/ a rose gold micropavé band.
Second ring is photoshopped, haha. It’s a picture of my lab created padparadscha sapphire (taken w/ my low grade camera phone) on a rose gold micropavé band.
(Pads are so unbelievably hard to photograph. It’s either way too pink or way too orange – and this picture made it look really cloudy, but it’s actually pretty clear)
Third ring is a peachy sapphire w/ a rose gold split shank micropavé band. I think this one may be my favourite?
And last is a picture of my lab created pad on a split shank micropavé band in white gold.
Sooo, I’m torn because I love pads so much, but my finacé doesn’t like the fact that I want to put lab created pad in my engagement ring. The peachy coloured sapphire would be nice because it reminds me of a really pale pad, but in certain light it will look more white (which seems more bridal I suppose?)
I think I definitely want a split shank band – either 14k rose or white gold and w/ micropavé and the stone in either a 1c oval or elongated cushion w/ a halo (I have super small hands w/ short fingers – size 7). Although my fiancé said that the price can be flexable, I’m wary because I know I’m going to have it custom made and I have no idea how much this costs. Buying online is out of the question for my fiancé (so no EidelPrecious), so whatever I choose will look slightly different from these. And buying a natural pad is out of the question too, because they would be out of our budget.
SO, tell me what you think – lab created sapphire or natural sapphire? I like that the rose gold picks up the colour nicely in the sapphires. If any of you have any similar rings – peach or padparadscha sapphires, morganite, etc in either rose gold or white, please post your pictures! And if you have had your ring made, what was the price range?
Thanks again for taking the time to read my short story 🙂
