    @Ms.GoodEarth: I didn’t say if it was antique it would be rare, I said if it was an unheated sapphire it would be rare. Only about 2% of the sapphires on the market today are untreated, most have been heated to stabilize and enhance color and clarity.

    Question: Have you ever tried on either one in person?

    ETA: I just saw that SO wanted you to try them on.

    Other bee’s have gotten a diamond solitaire with colored gemstones on the side or in their wedding band.  You can always mix up your choice.

    I think it is a great idea to go try them on. If you love the sapphire as much on as much on as you do in pics, I would go for it! Unless, of course, your SO is really leaning towards the diamond, in which case I guess you would be back to square one :/ The good news is they are both gorgeous, so you can’t go wrong!

    I have a Brilliant Earth sapphire and I love it so much.  I can assure you that they look just as stunning in person as they do on the website.  The stones are gorgeous and the detailing is exquisite.

    Unfortunately it’s really hard to capture the true color of the stone in photos.  In bright light it’s quite close to the color of the stones on their website photos.  And Brilliant Earth is a lovely company – good choice! ๐Ÿ™‚

    I am all about something different but I voted for the Diamond between these two. Maybe “Kate” ruined the whole sapphire ring for me…

    I have a ruby, so I am biased towards gemstones ๐Ÿ™‚  But, I love the detail on the saphire too.

    @Hydra:  I find it really hard to capture the color of my ruby as well!

    The saphire ring is just gorgeous! ๐Ÿ˜€ Nice blue color as well by the way. I would say you should choose the one that feels right. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    I’ve always wanted a Sapphire so when it was time that is what I got. But sadly since Kate got one everyone thinks you are going with the new trend.

    The sapphire, no contest. I love the setting, and the colour is beautiful. I’d def try them on though to get a better idea.

    I know solitaires are popular but I prefer rings with a bit of detail that are a bit different. I have an antique-style diamond cluster and get so many comments on it because it’s not a ‘typical’ e-ring.

    Also, I think your heart is with the sapphire from what you’ve said ie that it takes your breath away, and when you close your eyes you think about it. I get the feeling the only thing drawing you to the solitaire is the fact it’s tradtional, and while there’s nothing wrong with tradition, you should go for what you REALLY want, not what you think you should have (if that makes sense)

    @Ms.GoodEarth:  regarding Kates ring- remember it was Diana’s first- so the “trend’ has been around for 3 decades.

    @Ms.GoodEarth: Aw, thank you!

    And I just thought I’d add – so far I haven’t had any trouble with people not recognizing my ring for what it is.  Most people just comment on how stunning it is or tell me how much they like sapphires!  A lot of people do ask why I went with a sapphire though, so it helps to have a ready answer for that (Usually my answer is “Uhhhhm, because it’s pretty?” which probably sounds dumb!).  And oddly enough, nobody has ever mentioned Kate/Diana’s ring to me or said anything about sapphires being trendy.

    I hope you have lots of fun at your appointment!  My ring was ordered without ever having seen it in person, and I would have loved the chance to go to their showroom and try things on!
