Wow! That is one gorgeous sapphire! Personally, I don’t think you would need big diamonds around it – it’s a beautiful stone on it’s own, and I’m sure you wouldn’t want to take away from it with big diamonds or something. I think it’d look great with a halo of very small diamonds around it, or on a pave band – something that’ll add a little extra shine, but won’t take away from your amazing stone 🙂

I agree with pp about not using a big diamond halo- a halo of really tiny diamonds would be pretty though.  For large stones, I like halos that also use a bezel setting like this:

I think it looks cleaner and less “encrusted” or gaudy than standard prong-set halos when the center stone is that large.  I also loove milgrain, with or without a halo:

(This is another bee’s ring that I just drool over)

I like the simplicity of this eight prong setting:

It shows off way more of the gorgeous stone than a halo setting would.

@Blingbaby:  that’s a gorgeous stone.  i wouldn’t do too much to take away for it.

if you like the halo look, i would keep the halo small and tight.  another option is to add side stones to it.  again, keep it simple.   of course there is always just a nice solitaire with maybe a thin pave band.
