I have a topaz engagement ring. I have no regrets. I love it so much. It’s not as hard as sapphires but I take really good care of it. I’ve accidentally knocked it around a bit and I haven’t damaged it. Diamonds just aren’t for everyone and that’s ok! I love sapphires.

TwilightRarity :  Your set is my absolutely favourite on WB. I also love your green (moissanite?) ring too. Droooooool.

klr4589 :  I absolutely love my aquamarine diamond. However, I learned after I got it that I will most likely have to replace it every 20 years or so if I want it to maintain the sparkle. (It has to do with the heating treatment they use to enhance the color.) Definitely look into long-term care for your stone, but I would totally recommend going non-diamond if you like the look. It feels more personal to me.

I have a white sapphire engagement ring.  When I first got it I thought we coiuld upgrade it at some point.  But, truth is the more I wear it, the compliments I get and the more I see how easy it is to take care of…  I refuse any other stone.  Really.

There are people who will state sapphires are dull and do not have the sparkle of diamonds.  Truth is I feel they are wrong.  My stone has an excellent cut.  Cut is everything.  If you have a crappy what I call ‘mall’ cut I feel the stone can look dull and lifeless.  With a good cut it will not only sparkle…  it will also not only sparkle in cool tones but will also sparkle the more rare warm tones.

klr4589 :  I have a ruby and have no regrets that it is not a diamond. Sometimes I wish I would have considered blue stones like the one you’re looking at, but I’ve always loved rubies and red looks better with my skin tone so that’s how I chose it.

That stone looks gorgeous! I hope you’re able to get it!

Honestly, I have always LOVED sapphires. They are very hard for a gem stone, so do not worry there because they are suitable for every day wear. I wanted sapphire of some sort in my ring and left it up to Fiance to decide. He custom designed my ring and honestly I am so happy that he chose sapphire as the center stone. I absolutely love it. Now, I have recied a couple “it’s not a diamond…” type of comments, but mostly I get “Wow!” type of reaction because it is very uncommon in my family and friends and area that people would have a non-diamond ering. I actually have a friend who traded in her diamond for their 10 year anniversary to get an emerald.

Honestly, I say do what YOU want, it will be on your finger after all!

For reference:

I clean my ring maybe twice a month with a simply jewelery cleaner that is safe for sapphires, diamonds, and white gold. I let is soak while I shower then rinse in water and she sparkles like crazy!

I really wanted a pink sapphire as a center stone for my engagement ring. My Fiance was not a huge fan of the idea. We decided to go with sapphire side stones which i think was a great compromiise as I got a beautiful diamond and my sapphires.
