Hi everyone! I’m new here 🙂 I just got engaged a few weeks ago and reserved a date on May 9, 2015 at the Powel Crosley Estate. I’m not from Florida but my family vacations near Sarasota every year. I had never heard of love bugs but my mom just told me that she thinks they might be a problem. I also found a review of the estate on tripadvisor from a vendor saying that they have problems with love bugs. Do any of you have experience with this? I’m so torn on what to do! I’m thinking about pushing back my date but then it’s rainy season / hurricane season and much more humid and I also don’t want a year and a half engagement. I’d love to hear your advice!!

SRQ is my home town!!! Love bugs are just a part of Florida life. I wouldn’t call them a problem for anyone except your windshield. I’ve never been swarmed by them or anything. To be honest it’s a non-issue to us. I wouldn’t let that move your date.
Just set up a “love bug” station or something cutesy like that with little bug spray bottles if you’re really worried.
Rain would stress me out more than love bugs.
We almost got married at the Powel except they are so strict about decorations and have so many rules. They also only let you use vendors that are their partners. Are you totally set on the venue?
Have you checked out Selby Gardens or one really awesome venue I like is Ceviche. It’s a restaurant that has a privare floor. I believe it’s in downtown St. Pete but don’t quote me on that. I’ve seen GORGEOUS weddings there and then the couples ride around in the bike trolley and take super cute pics. Just my two cents.

Love bugs are definitely a part of life that time of year. They don’t swarm, per se, but for those unfamiliar with them, they might be alarmed, especially because they land or hover close to people. I would possibly consider writing a quick blurb about them on wedding website or in the wedding program informing out of town guests that they mean no harm or something. Certain areas will have a bigger problem with them…it might work out that you are on the water and they won’t be as rampant.

chica21384: Congratulations on setting your date! I’m obsessed with the Powel Crosley and hoping to book my wedding there soon. I was wondering if you have received any quotes from their preferred list of vendors? I’ve been reaching out to them to see if the extra rentals will fit into my budget, but haven’t heard back from many. Any advice or information you have would be great!
