I only have experience being in silk satin in a cocktail length bridesmaid dress in July.  It was pretty hot, but with Texas in July it’s hot no matter what you wear.  However, I will say this, a silk satin wedding dress has to be wayyyyy cooler than the groom and his posse who are all wearing suits.

I think the pettycoat makes a bigger difference then the actual dress sometimes.  Try not to have to wear a pettycoat if you can.

I wore satin to my wedding last weekend, where it was still 80 degrees out in DC. I was worried about being too hot. I wasn’t that day, but I do think that satin would be too hot to wear in July, especially if you would be outside for long periods of time. Satin is HEAVY! I would get sweaty just trying on my dress indoors over the summer.

My wedding will be in July…and in my honest opinion…eveything will be hot in July!

I was married on July 3rd in humid, St. Louis!  My gown was pretty heavy and it had a cathedral length train, BUT it wasn’t the gown that made me warm.  It was ALL of the dancing I did throughout the night that made me sweat!  Be sure to take some breaks to cool off and bring battery-operated fans to cool you down during picture time.  Good Luck!

@Amaryllis: Yep. I’m just crossing my fingers for a mild July next year!
