Is satin really very hot? Seriously? I haven’t tried any dresses yet (going to start in just under 3 weeks) and I was convinced satin would be best for me as I thought it would feel really nice and cool and I can’t stand heat. Lol thanks for the heads up, I really had no idea!

@Cem0930:  I wore a satin, cathedral length gown on July 3rd in St. Louis.  It was 94 degrees on our wedding day and quite humid.  I was hot!  However, the 3 ring hoop did help to keep the weight of the gown off of my body.  I wasn’t miserable until I started dancing the night away and had wished I had fans blowing directly on me!  lol

A friend of mine wore satin for her August wedding outdoors in NJ.  It was HOT. Like, disgusting hot.  She didn’t wear anything underneath (she had cups sewn in, and just wore undies), and she sweat through the dress at one point, under the boobs.  The pit stains were horrific.  It was especially hot that day- pushing 100, full humidity, and we were in the direct sun for the ceremony (blessedly, the reception was indoors).  I was dying in a knee-length poly black Bridesmaid or Best Man dress, she was positively melting.  I wouldn’t in a million years wear satin in the summer.  Just my two cents…

I feel like if I wore ANYTHING in 100 degree weather (including a bikini) I would be sweating like a pig. If it IS 65 though I would say you should be good to go! Just get what you love and make it work. If the weather is that unpredictable.. you really don’t have much of a choice lol.

I hadn’t considered this, actually. I bought a satin gown for a late May wedding – it could get warm. Hopefully it won’t be that bad!

I wore a satin bridesmaid dress for my best friend’s July wedding. I was hot and sticky that day. I didn’t feel better until we got into the air conditioning. Have you tried on any satin dresses yet? You might not like how they feel on you in general. I tried on one and felt too shiny in it. I tried on and loved an organza dress that was light and airy.

@thursdayschild: Where are you getting married?

My wedding (the day before yours) will be near Sacramento, CA and while it will be warm I was determined to wear satin….it is my favorite.

Yes, satin is warm and heavy but it is gorgeous. It takes pain (and sweat) for beauty I suppose. 😛

@Treejewel19: Ventura County! It shouldn’t be too bad, we’re right on the ocean. Even if it’s hot my satin beauty will be worth it.

Ugh – I only just thought about this recently, after I purchased my satin dress for my August wedding.  But my wedding is an evening wedding so I think I’ll be alright (I hope).  And at least the summers here are dry.  Humidity kills me (I don’t know how all you guys back east stand it!)

I think the best bet if it turns out the be hot that day, is to just stay in the air conditioning as much as possible prior to the ceremony, so you’re still fresh when the event starts and you go outside.  And then I take it your indoor reception will be air-conditioned too?  I think the really big problem would be if your event was entirely outdoors and it was a disgustingly hot day, because then there would be no relief.  🙁
