What kind of linens are you going with?  From what I understand there was a big variation in price depending on how fancy they are.  Also, can you downgrade the chairs?  That’s another expense that gets WAY out of control.  Have you looked on wedding wire to see if there are other rental companies in your area?  Also, what about looking online for the rentals of linens and things and then getting the local person to do just the big stuff?  Just a few ideas…

You caterer should be able to provide most of that. Also look in the classifieds section here, ebay and craigslist for other brides selling their items. I got 120 inch round tablecloths for $6 a piece.

I found that buying linens was no more expensive than renting them (honestly, it was EXACTLY the same cost, almost to the dollar), and I can resell them afterwards and hope to get maybe half of my money back. The cheapest site I’ve found is http://www.tableclothsfactory.com.

I did not have to use rentals at my venue, but I wanted a specific color linen so I did. I used  rentablecloths.com and they were very affordable. My venue set them out for me.

I’m not sure what type of wedding you are having (formal, casual, etc.), but disposable bamboo flatware and plates are becoming trendy. This would be great for an outdoor or rustic wedding- I’ve also seen it used at a vineyard wedding.

It is really cheap, but not plastic.  It could work mixed in with some real items. This entire set from Sur La Table is $1.61 per person (2 plates and flatware). You could do just flatware for 50 cents per person and pair with white china plates.
