    Are they married?

Does the woman use her maiden name?

Does she prefer “Ms.” instead of “Mrs.”?

I think if you are inviting people to your wedding, you should have at least a pretty good guess of what they prefer… I do not think that you have to use the same format for every guest!

I think if there is kids, then on the informal STD, you are very safe saying “the Doe Family”

I think “Mr. and Mrs. John Doe” is the proper style unless you have reason to believe that the particular couple or woman would prefer “Mr. John Doe and Ms. Sally Doe” or “Mr. John Doe and Ms. Sally Sue.” (I don’t believe you should say “Mr. and Mrs. John Doe” if the married woman has kept her maiden name. But, like my SIL, who kept her maiden name, she understands if someone addresses it to “Mr. and Mrs.  **” she just prefers her name! Don’t stress about it!)

If they are married, I write Mr. and Mrs. John Doe.

If not I write John Doe and Sally Sue.  Hope that helps.

@Captain013:  I’m not sure if you live in the US or not, but…if you plan on mailing these within the US, the smallest mailable envelope is 4-Bar.  If your envelopes are in fact 3″ x 3″ as you said, they are too small to mail 🙁  3 1/2″ x 5″ is the minimum.

Personally, I prefer option B, but I know that’s not everyone’s cup of tea.  If they are just the STDs, I would probably just address to the parents and save the kids name’s for the formal invite later on.  That’s what I did.
