I’m a newbee! We got engaged right before the holidays and decided to wait til the Holiday craze was over before trying to delve into wedding planning. We are planning our wedding for June 7th! Whew, it’s going to be a whirlwind of planning, that’s for sure. The first big obstacle I am running into is our Save-the-Dates. I know Save-the-Date’s typically go out 6 months before (that’s already come and gone) but still think it will be important to send them as we will have quite a few out of town guests driving in. However, here is my dilemma, we are long distance. My Fiance is in the military and lives around 6 hours away. Due to complicated Army business, he can’t come here (where we are getting married and presumably our photographer will be) until February. That is much too late to do Engagement pictures to get save-the-dates out. Any suggestions on what to do? The thoughts I’ve had so far are
1. skip them altogether (this would make it almost impossible for out of town guests to attend)
2. Try to find a photographer in Fayetteville (his town) to do only an engagement shoot next weekend and hastily get some together
3. use an existing snapshot of the two of us to make a save-the-date
4. Do a save-the-date without a picture, if that’s even possible. Do people do that? Is it tacky? I’ve never seen one!
I would love love love to hear thoughts on this or extra opinions that might be helpful! Any other long-distance bees have ideas?

My vote: #3. We didn’t do engagement photos, so I used 2 other photos.
I also had a short engagement (6 months), and we skipped engagement photos/an engagement party. We could have done both, but my advice to you is keep it simple/do as much as you can to keep your planning easy! Ex: I bought a sample dress the first day I went dress shopping- dress #12. Make decisions and move on! 🙂

We also did save-the-dates without photos.
Like other bees said, there are tons of options. If you decide you want a photo save-the-date, you can totally use a favorite snapshot.

@sstout6: we had the same issue thanks to the army. Mr. S is stationed in Missouri now but his entire portion of the guest list is out of towners so we still wanted to send them. Honestly, at only 6 months you could away with not sending any and just send the invites a little earlier than normal. But if you really want to send them, the concert ticket thing is a hit. That’s what we did. But also check out the DIY section of WB. You’ll see a lot of Save-The-Date Cards without photos.

Thank all of you so much! I had no idea non-picture save-the-dates were an option and you all provided some great options. I love each of your examples, very classy and fun!
