Where are you getting it printed? If you get it done at a small print shop then they’ll be able to help a bit with some of the details. But I’m a graphic designer so I can give you a quick run down of what’s standard 🙂

Size – How big is your design, and what are the dimensions? The standard postcard size is 5.8″ x 4.1″ (also called A6) but the following are also pretty common: 4″ x 6″, 4.25″ x 6″, 5″ x 7″

Gloss – totally depends on your design. Usually for wedding invitations though you want a matte finish (no gloss)

Stock – The thicker the card stock the more expensive it will be (and it comes across as higher quality), but for an invitation you probably want approx 110lb stock.

We opted to go for the default version on Minted for our save the dates. I LOVE stationery and paper products but we just couldn’t justify the cost of a thick, creamy, card stock for save the dates.

Check out the online retailers; you can put your design (or at least something similary) in their formats and play around with what you like.
