    the invites still only need to go out 8 weeks prior to the wedding.  any more and they get tosses aside/forgotten, etc. most etiquette books say 6-8 weeks out, and those rules were set out long before Save-The-Date Cards were even thought of.

    If your wedding is only five months away, and if you would be just as happy to text your guests as send a formal invite, a save-the-date is the biggest possible waste of money you could come up with.  🙂 

    You don’t need it.  Send your invites within the normal timeframe (about two months).  It’s perfectly acceptable to call or email everyone with your website info in advance if you want – only the invite has to be formal.
