This is hilarious! Not in an “at your expense” way- I just think it really goes to show how much us brides are “sold on the idea of” that’s really not necessary. I don’t think save the dates (I’m sorry, I can’t bring myself to call them STD’s…) even existed 20 years ago. I was so excited to get engagement photos taken, and trying to figure out a way to combine xmas cards with a save the date….I think I’ll just send out traditional xmas cards and write something like “Merry Christmas, Aunt Suzie, Uncle Tim, Mary and Bobby! Please save the date for our June 14th wedding in Philadelphia. We can’t wait to have you be part of our special day!” and then include a link with more info or something. Not sure about the logistics of that, or if this means that I don’t still want engagement photos, but sheesh.

Yes! I did electronic save the dates and then I sent out “information packets”. Super cheap, I printed and cut them myself but everyone thinks they are formal invitations.
They’re just additional info so people know when to buy plane tickets for, what day we’re getting married, when they can book excursions, etc.
Although one of the reasons I sent them was to send out the house rules separately from the invitiations. I want to get details and rules out of the way so the invitations are fun! and so that people that are not attending might let me know a little earlier since we’re paying for accommodations.

I don’t know why everyone has such struggles with them- they are pretty self-explanatory!
I was in college when I got my first one and I had nothing wedding related on my radar. I thought the purpose was pretty obvious.
In an effort to get people to go to our website, where I have a ton of information, I listed the date and nothing else. Out of 75+ Save-The-Date Cards sent out, our website has only 25 hits! It’s a semi-destination wedding, 2-6 hour drive for people in the New England/New York area, so they’re going to need to reserve hotel rooms and such!
