I see all these save the dates that have “invitation to follow” on them. If our save the date says just the date and city wouldn’t people know already (since we’re asking them to save the date) that they will receive a formal invitations?
If you did your save the dates why did you or did you not include “invitation to follow?”

I think I might leave that phrase off of mine. The phrase just feels redundant to me since a save the date implies that an invitation will follow. I’m still working on the design so if it doesn’t make the save the date look to cluttered I might slap it on there.

I put it on there because I don’t think all of my guests would know what a STD is for…like they might be expecting to have to RSVP or something. I haven’t gotten very many in real life (only one a couple of months ago), and I only knew about them from Weddingbee honestly!

@FloretteLiz: Okay, Thats what I thinking. I don’t know where the formal inviation to follow came from, but I see it on a lot of save the dates. I’d rather have more picture space 🙂

We included the wording on our STD’s. Most of our guests have no clue what one is so by putting the wording in they know…hey Save the Date but your invitation will come in the mail later so don’t call us at the same time trying to RSVP. We put it at the bottom of the back of the card in small lettering. Didn’t take up much space at all.

@MademoiselleL: I guess that makes more sense! I can see how some of my older relatives might get confused about that one. It’s hard to remember that save the dates are a fairly new trend when you are on sites like this all the time!

I’m putting it on in case some of my older guests don’t understand why it’s on there. Not all know what the save the date is for.

I didn’t use it. I felt it was redundant. I only had one or two people ask where they RSVP at and I told them we’d be sending the invite later. “Save the Date” is self-explanatory to me.

I knew that many if not all of our 300+ guests wouldn’t know what a Save the Date was unless they were in the younger crowd. Of course, I forgot to put it on the dang magnet!
Thankfully, when I was ordering from Vistaprint, I used the ‘gift of free labels’ to print off labels that said ‘Formal Invitation to Follow’ and matched our return address label. Sealed up the envelopes with that, so they got the message but it wasn’t on the Save the Date anywhere and we could use more photo space 🙂
