Our wedding is Jan 2013 so still a while away… however a significant number of guests on my side live on the opposite side of the world.. I want to give as much notice as possible to increase the possibility of some of them attending… do you think if I send save the dates to those people like 12 months in advance, and send the local crowd theirs months later, would that make sense? Is 12 months before the right timing or should it be sooner/later?

- Wedding: April 2011 - Sweet ceremony by the sea and sunset celebration on the North Shore of Hawaii
We sent all of ours out 8-10 months before and it was enough time for our friends to request vacation and book a reasonably priced trip. Maybe 10 months is best? Good luck to you!

I think when there are many traveling guests involved, it is best to send them out early. The invitation is still sent out in the requisite six weeks before, but the STD gives a heads up so people can start making arrangements early.

I think your idea is great. Go ahead and send it to those overseas 12 months in advance, so they can have more time to plan, save and prepare. For everyone else send it a bit later.

We are a little over 12 months out from our wedding and at the end of this month or sometime next month we will be sending out our Save-The-Date Cards to all of our Aussie friends and family. This gives them a year to plan vacation time around our wedding and most importantly, start saving for the trip, should they want to come out to California to celebrate with us. We are also going to give a dorky Power Point presentation, ala Couples Retreat, to give them the heads up on how much they should expect to spend on flights, hotels, etc.
