Just wanted to share a printing misfortune and ask your adivce and opinions on the situation.
So we are incorporating travel elements into our wedding and thought it would be really cuto to send out postcards for save-the dates.
We designed a really cute one and uploaded all our addresses to vistaprint to use their mailing services. Everything was fine until I realized their address template was very different from my address excel spreadsheet. I called and asked if it would be a problem. Twice. Talked to two different departments – the design one and the postcard mailing one. Both assured me while looking at my uploaded files that everything will be fine. I even ordered a digital proof and everything looked great…
Until a friend of the FI’s called to say that they got the postcard, and that it looks great, but did I mean to only include his and his wife’s first names? And so did FI’s dad’s friend!
Turns out vistaprint CUT OFF THE LAST NAMES!!! It wouldn’t be the end of the world if all our guests were married couples – at least both their first names would be on the postcard, but for couples with diiferent first AND last names, it looks like the whole second person will be cut off! AHHH!!!
There is nothing we can do to stop or change the shipment at this point, as the postcards were mailed directly by vistaprint, so now all we can do is brace ourselves for perlexed and potentially offended phone call frome guests thinking we forgot their last names or the names of their significan others. HOW EMBARASSING! I’m so humiliated in front of all our guests and both families. I know nobody is blaming me directly, and that the printers screwed up, but still. I’m so upset!
How would you ladies feel and what would you do?

I would call all couples with different last names – better to do that then have them wonder about it. It’s clearly not your fault, so I think anyone you call would understand and appreciate it.
As for vistaprint, call a manager and complain!

Complain to Vistaprint and use Catprint for your invitations. They’re about the same price and will send you a free hard copy proof to approve before you finalize the printing 🙂

it will be ok….definitely not ideal but hopefully it will be a good laugh (someday….need a little time before it gets funny) and people will understand…..

That is horrible! So sorry you are having to deal with that! We all want our wedding stuff to be perfect so I know how upsetting that is! I would call those who you think would be offended and let them know about Vistaprints mistake. And I would call Vistaprint and complain!

Thanks girls, I think my friends wouldn’t be that upset or offended, I am more worried about parent’s friends and especially looking like an idiot in front of my FI’s parents. I used a groupon coupon with vistaprint, and of course that had nothing to do with the outcome, but I won’t want them to think that I was cheap or cut corners and that’s why this happened. Arrghhh. Yes, I will for sure complain to vistaprint! Should I have a second set of cards sent out?

Yeah, I’d probably just call/send out an email to each of the couples who will have 1 person not named and say, “We had a printing glitch & half the names were cut off, but we are of course inviting both you and Billy Bob!” Or whatever.
Don’t worry — this can be fixed relatively easily!

@LilDrAnya: Ahh, I would be so angry. After all the time and effort you put into every little detail of the STD’s and they messed up. I would call vistaprint and demand a refund.
I agree with other ladies that you should call or even just email the guests with two last names and explain the situation. You also don’t want them wondering who is invited!

Technically, for a non-married couple-you only send a save the date to the person you’re inviting. Like say-if you’re friends with Kim Kardashian and you’re inviting her and Kanye-you’d only address the STD to Kim-you’re telling her to save the date for your wedding…you put Kanye on the invite only. Hope you have some of these instances so it lessens the number of Save-The-Date Cards excluding people!

I like the idea about calling/emailing couples with different names whose partner may have gotten cut off. In the meantime, I posted a little “sorry about this printing glitch, of course we know your last name and of course your significant other is invited!” note on our website.

I tend to over react and with this particular situation, I totally would! I would first cry and freak out then get REALLY pissed off and call up Vistaprint and demand they give me a partial refund or something. I know, not what you should do but that’s totally what I would end up doing had this happened to me. :/
Hope no one is offended! *hugs*

vistaprint offered to reissue the cards or a refund. i opted for the refund, in case they mess up the reprint as well! still feeling embarrassed though.

@LilDrAnya: At least they were willing to do that!
Totally stinks, but I would just make some phone calls and explain what happened. Most people will be understanding!

People will be understanding! Silly Vistaprint. I would definitely, DEFINITELY call and politely but firmly get ALL my money back. C’mon.
