- Wedding: October 2013
I hope it’s ok that I post this here, I wasn’t sure if I should post this on the destination wedding board.
We’re having a very small wedding ceremony and reception with immediate family and a few very close friends only. It will be less than 50 people. I’m considering it a destination wedding (in Aspen, CO), but it’s only about 4-5 hours away from where we live and from where his family lives. My parents and siblings will be flying in from out-of-state.
A lot of our huge families are sad that we are keeping it so small, but understand why we don’t want a 300+ guest wedding. My mom wants to host an at-home reception/open house for my aunts, uncles, cousins, local friends, etc. in my home state about a month after the wedding. My fiance’s mom wants to do essentially the same thing for my fiance’s aunts, uncles, cousins, etc., also a few weeks after the wedding. I’m not going to re-wear my wedding dress at them, and we’re not going to have dancing, but there will be tons of food (catered), drinks, cake, music, etc. There will be about 100+ guests at each event (the houses are large enough).
So my questions are:
1. Do I call these evetns open houses? Receptions? Something else? I’m not going to re-wear my wedding dress at them and we’re not going to have dancing. We will have lots of food, drinks, cake, music, etc.
2. Would it be silly to send save-the-dates for these events?
