Do we have to send save the dates to all the people we plan on inviting?
Our guest list is somewhat still up in the air. If we decide to add more people on later, is it ok that we didn’t send them a save-the-date and just send them an invitation. Not sure what the etiquette is here.. I know if you send them a save-the-date, you have to send them an invitation.

only out of town guests and important family members who you would like to announce the wedding too..

Really, the only people that need STD’s are the ones who live far away and need to make travel plans. You will be fine just sending invites to those extra people you decide to invite.

We are month twins =].
You still have a long time before you need to send STD’s… you will probably have your guest list figured out by then.
We plan to send out our STD’s to family/friends that are over 2,000 miles away 1 year in advance. We wanted them to have plenty of time, as some of them will need to save, and our family is full of planners.
Family/friends who are closer will recieve their STD’s around the 7 month mark, with invitations being sent around the 5 month mark [hopefully we get the RSVP’s around the 2 month mark].

@jenilynevette: Hi Month Twin!! 🙂
Yeah, we aren’t sending anything for a while but we are looking at saving money so we are doing less Save-The-Date Cards (which is a really funny abbreviation when you have no clue what you’re reading about.. The first sentece I read with this abbreviation was “If you give them an STD, you have to send them an invitation.. You can imagine my confusion.. I’m still learning what all of these abbreviations mean).
What is your date, jenilynevette?

@dreamer1288: I think STD’s are really only required for those who have to spend alot of time traveling/taking off work, ect. They really need to know ahead of time so they can save money/purchase airfare, ect.
Our date is October 3rd, 2014!

@jenilynevette: I just realized that my wedding date was set wrong on my profile…? So my actual date is November 23, 2013 :). But we’re both fall weddings so that’s close! Haha
And thanks for the clarification about the Save-The-Date Cards. That makes me feel much better!

I would only send Save-The-Date Cards to people you know you are definitely inviting. You can send people an invitation if they didn’t get an STD, but not the other way around.

Don’t send Save-The-Date Cards until your guest list is final. Only people who get an invite should get a STD. Save-The-Date Cards are completely optional. They’re best when you’re having a destination wedding or just want to give people a year’s notice. Personally, I think everyone should get one. I wouldn’t send them to some people and not others.
