SO, My fiance and I have already set our date for our wedding but it isnt for awhile (about 2 years). I want to send out save the dates, but a lot of stuff online says about 6 months to about a year in advance. Is 2 years too early to send out save the dates? Or should I just wait? Maybe I can say that I’m overly excited! haha Thank you!!

I would say it’s way too early.
When I got engaged, we had set our date for 10/31/14 – it was a few months shy of being 2 years away.
We are sending them out in sometime between feb & april for our october wedding.

Way too early! People will probably forget since it’s so far out. I was so eager too and wanted to send ours out at 9-10 months but my partner convinced me to wait until around 7-8. It ended up being way better and now I see his reasoning. I get wanting to DO something after getting engaged though – what about sending out engagement announcements?

I wouldn’t send them out til 6 months before unless you are having a destination wedding. Our engagment is 2 yrs too but I’m no where near even thinking about that stuff. I’d hold off til like 8 months before to order them.
You could put an announcement in the paper tho.

@GB520: Yeah I think an engagement announcement in the paper is a good idea.
WAY too early for save the dates. A lot can happen with venues and you might have to change your date TBH. My wedding is Sept 2014 and we are sending them out in January.

@emstape: Way to early!! Hold your horses lol
I sent mine out at 8 months. I think thats the earliest anyobe should send them out if they are having a local wedding (when I say local..I mean you dont have to fly anywhere)
if you are having a destination wedding…than it woukd appropriate to send it out a year in advance

Remember, everyone who gets a save the date must be invited…. don’t want to send STDs to someone who 18 months from now you no longer want to invite, for whatever reason.
Fiance and I are excited to send out STDs as well… our wedding is oct 14 and were planning on waiting til Feb or so to send them.

WAY early unless your wedding is on the moon or something ;). I get being excited (we also had a 2 year engagement), but sending them out now will make people think it’s for June 2014, or completely forget altogether, which nie gates the purpose of the STD. We have a lot of Out of Town guests and just sent ours out last week for our June 2014 wedding. So my advice is to just wait a year.
