Ours is a Sunday wedding, so I am sending them out for those who need to make travel or hotel arrangements!  Also, we just moved so I wanted to send our new address out anyway!

We sent them out and we did so 7 months before our wedding. They are a relative inexpensive purchase and it really kick started our planning. I loved them! By doing STD we were more in a hurry to compile our guest list and have addresses instead of trying to get them when we send out invites. I have a relativly large family and quite a few will have to do some traveling and make hotel arrangements. July is a busy month for my family so it was nice to get the word out with some time in advance. If you are on the fence about doing STD, i say do it! It benefited us more than anything and gave our guests pleny of notice!

99% of our guests will have to travel. most will have to fly. so we’re sending them out. i designed them myself.

@rhiannonzdanowicz:  They’re uncommon in Australia, so we didn’t. The most important interstate people (my grandmothers and some uncles/aunts) were told of the date months before anyway.

Another practical point (apart from the obvious one of saving effort and money) is we didn’t need to finalise the guest list until a couple of months before the wedding.

We are not. We are likely not going to completely finalize the guest list until about 4 months prior to the wedding. Additionally, we have already let all our immediate family members & close friends know the wedding date. We have a couple people from overseas, and we let them know the date as soon as we chose it, so they will have had about 16 months to plan.

We did because it was a destination wedding.

We did, but honestly I could have gone without the fuss. We figured it was a good idea as a big chunk of my guest list is abroad, and the wedding is a week day. We had postcards made that had a little calendar on it with the date circled which highlighted that it is a weekday not a weekend. As for letting people know in advance, most already knew through word of mouth and I already know that only one family member from abroad is actually going to make it.

On a side note, we were invited to a wedding last year and they had little postcard save the dates too, but included them in the invitation… I didn’t really see the point in doing it that way since you are going to have to RSVP within a certain time anyways.

We sent out Save the Dates because a lot of our guests need to travel.  Also because we are having activites all weekend and are providing places for people to stay we wanted them to have the wedding website address to give them all the info.

I love going to over to my family and friends houses and seeing the Save the Dates on their fridges!!!

@rhiannonzdanowicz:  Hey!!! I’m from Phenix City!!! I’m getting married in Columbus, GA! It’s nice to see a Columbian on here! LOL! We sent save the dates at the 6 month mark and are sending our invitations at the 4 month mark. The invitations are so soon because I know that I will be having to track ppl down for their RSVP so I’m giving myself some time.

Oh and we also go a fantastic deal on Save the Date magnets. We got 100 for $50 from vistaprint.
