What are everyones opinions on Save the Dates? I am considering doing them since my dad was telling my family the wrong weekend, plus it is in the summer so many people plan vacations and what not. So many people I talk to says it is a waste of money, what are you thoughts?
I am planning on doing a postcard to save on postage.

They were a good idea for us. We have a ton of people coming in from out of town, during the summer, and alot of people who are very socially busy so we wanted it on their calendar. I think in your situation, they would be a great choice.
You might check out vistaprints.com. I did postcards and they came out great and they were free.

I think it’s a great idea. I ordered ours from vistaprint.com. They were relatively inexpensive ($30 for 100 or so), but they offer free postcards once in a while, you may be able to find a design you like there!

Personally, I’ll be emailing our save the dates. I’m not really interested in spending ANY amount of money on mailing save the dates, but for some people, it’s important.

Sign up for the business emails (not the wedding ones – the deals are not as good). They will send you deals every other day. I got a ton of stuff for free, almost all my paper products and a ton of STD magnets. I set up a hotmail account just for them (but I screwed up and got on the wedding one with my original account).

we did them and we spent a pretty large amount of money on them, in the context of our overall budget. I’m trying to entice as many people as possible to come over here from Canada, and i don’t intend to send invitations to people if they tell me in no uncertain terms that they can’t afford it. So, we decided to splash out on save the dates a bit, since we’ll likely save on invitations when the time comes.
I ALWAYS appreciate getting a save the date, especially for “wedding season”.

@katherine26: I love getting save the dates – I actually love getting anything in the mail that is not a bill or a marketing scheme.
We are doing save the dates, magnets from Vista Print in fact. And tksjewelry is right about signing up for VistaPrint’s business emails. I signed up for the wedding ones and actually had to go to a different computer to sign up for the business emails. (I think their website was reading my IP address because even when I signed out, it still sent me to the wedding stuff on the website…)

The only reason I did save the dates was because Fiance has so many friends from the military and being all over the place. I wasn’t going to do them initially until I thought about how many people would need hotels and I wanted to give them enough notification on the wedding date for travel plans. On top of that, FI is only home during April, an extremely popular wedding month. I wanted to make sure people saved that date! lol. I spent about $180 for 125 of them. (They were 3 pages, in layers with a ribbon on the top. In hindsight, I would have picked something less expensive/informal but it was before I discovered the bee!)
