My wedding is on August 20, 2011. I’m wanting to send save the dates soon, but people keep saying to send them around the 1st of the year so as not to add to the bulk of mail people will be getting around the holidays. Is January (8 months before wedding) too late?

I don’t think 8 months would be too late. On average brides send out save-the-dates 6 to 8 months in advance. I sent ours out 10 months in advance because 99% of the guests will have to travel to get here. In this economy, I wanted to make sure everyone had enough time to save up, if they had to, to get here.

Mine are going out with this year’s Christmas cards. I’m sending mine out about a year early because many of our guests will have to travel, and some will need to set aside time out of their school year or take time off work and will want to budget their vacation time accordingly.
Plus, I am nothing if not impatient 🙂

@TXbride2011: Thanks, it just makes me nervous because the ONLY guests who will be local are my parents! The rest of us (including my fiancee and I) will be flying in from at least 1,000 miles away! Not really a destination wedding in San Antonio, TX but it seems to have turned into that!

When are the STD ready? If they are ready now, I’d actually send them now. Especially because it’s a Destination Wedding for everyone!
I don’t think it starts to get crazy with holiday mail until closer to Thanksgiving….

We sent ours out with our Christmas cards in December (for a September wedding) because we had a lot of people coming from out of town. 8 months is fine but you can send them sooner if you want to avoid the crush of holiday mail.
