Hi all. I guess I just want to know if I’m being ridiculous. I feel a little like a Victorian girl with a Hope Chest.
I’m not technically engaged, but I have a box of things in my closet saved for a future wedding, and have been slowly adding to it. I have fabric, buttons, and lace for my dress, an antique hankie, and most recently I spent a few dollars on Etsy to buy some vintage silk flowers and make myself a head wreath.
My guy and I have been together a bit over a year and a quarter, and living together for about 4 months. We are both in our mid-twenties. He’s my one, and he wants to get married as much as I do, but we’re not engaged yet because we’re broke (and as a consequence of that, living with my family to save money). Neither of us wants a big wedding (we’re both rather introverted/have crazy families) and so we’re planning on eloping to SF city hall in the next year or two, however, nothing is set.
I should add that my Boyfriend knows about this stuff, and is fine with it. He sat next to me at the table while I assembled the head wreath and liked it so much he tried to convince me to wear it at a Christmas party next month (lol).
How many of you other folks are saving/did save before engagement or marriage physical stuff for your future nuptials? Do you think it’s weird to be keeping/acquiring things like this?
