So, the man who killed her son gets 6 months in jail while she gets to greive and go to jail? Ridiculous

DUI/DWI sentencing in this country is ridiculous.

Wait, what? She’s being charged with MURDER because she committed the minor offense of jaywalking and a drunk driver recklessly killed her son?

That is so messed up.

@figgnewton:   “…the white stripes of a crosswalk are not impenetrable walls of steel that could have prevented a driver from striking someone crossing the street.”

Yes. This is SO messed up. 🙁

@figgnewton:  Would the driver have hit her son if she wasn’t jay walking though? The only thing in life we can control are our own reactions, no other people’s actions. It is her responsibility to keep her son safe and out of harm’s way. I would never, ever cross the road without a crosswalk if I had children with me (I shouldn’t even on my own, but I definitely do not with children).

You never know what can happen or what other people are going to do. Better safe than sorry.

@sapphire–stars:  I was wondering if she crossed at an unsafe place though, and the crosswalk would have been safer (maybe he would have hit a streetlight or a car rather than a child – still bad, but a mom needs to protect her kids).

This is a sad story all around, I hate seeing stuff like this, but the spin in this article is atrocious…she asked for a re-trial after being given 1 year probation and 40 hours of community service…

Disgusting and so sad.  What is wrong with our justice system!?!?  Rhetorical question of course… ugh.

That’s the stupidest f***ing thing ever. Pedestrians have the right of way no matter where they’re crossing. While I agree it’s an irresponsible choice, I doubt the white paint on the road indicating a cross walk would have magically made the driver sober enough to stop. Jaywalking is what normally, a $15 ticket? wtf.
