All of the bridal stores in Alexandria are seriously awful and they all have bad reviews–either for service or for alterations. This includes Hannelore’s, Katherine’s, and Ellie’s. I went to 2 of the 3 and although I found the dress I want at one of them, I’m ordering it from another salon in Richmond or Severna Park, MD where the service and alterations are better.

@FutureMrsChihuahua: Yep, I went to Maryland for my dress too. No, VA shops for me – they all sucked service-wise.

To OP, I wanted to CRY reading thing. So embarrassing & I can’t imagine how awful it felt. I’m so sorry!

@delovelyjenn: My fiance and I live in Fredericksburg so it’s major haul for us to get to Severna Park, MD but I’ve read really good things online about the alterations at Bridals by Elena. I was so tempted to just order in Alexandria since it’s closer, but you are right–they did all suck service wise. It’s really unfortunate. Somone needs to open a good salon in Alexandria.

I would talk to the manager and demand they refund your money for alterations if they do not go to the better business bureau. It is sad that people like that are still in business and small shops with nice employees go under. Sigh I think you have a great attitude about it though.Smile

@MissMetro:  I’d be down there the next day, standing outside of their store with a sign, telling the customers what happened to you.  Make some flyers too; couldn’t hurt!

just because the shop has a good selection does not mean you shouldnt post on yelp and everywhere to bring attention to their terrible service! I would never want to go into a relationship with a company that would hire a lunatic that treats customers that way! Best to warn other brides before they get caught in the same situation for worse. I am really sorry that happened to you, I would have been a mess you must be a very strong person.

I think you should really call their manger and or owner to tell your story and defintly try to get refund for alterations. I hope your dress can get fixed.

Next time something like that happens whip out your phone and take video of the bitch too!

@missvern: I like this idea.

But seriously – go to the news, any media you can get to. I’d see if you can find a local seamstress to actually DO the alterations at a lower cost. If you paid anything by credit card, see if you can dispute it. That is so unbelievable awful I can’t even imagine how bad you felt. I felt awkward enough changing when my associates were SUPER nice to work with. Knowing they were calling me fat, a thief, and worse, I’m with

@Linz1231: LOL.. that is exactly what I was thinking.

OP, I’m sooo sorry this happened to you.  This really sucks. I really hope that you get your $$ back, otherwise that shop has a whole hive of bees to deal with!!  Keep us updated!  :o)

When I read this post, I had a pit in my stomach.. it’s just so awful the way they treated you! I hope that you’ll post a review on other wedding sites so other brides won’t go through something similar. Weddings are stressful to begin with, no need to add more stress to it.

On top of writing bad reviews and whatnot, I would just take my dress elsewhere for alternations. No need to put yourself through that again.

I just died for you reading your post. I had a somewhat similar experience at a different salon, when MY dress came in, I was there to try it on and see what type of alterations I was going to need. (I won’t go into all the horrible detail) But they had taken what should have been such a wonderful, magical moment and made me feel worse than dog Sh#*  it was such a horrible feeling. I took my dress and left. It really hurt my heart. For several days I was so depressed, then it pissed me off. I wrote a big ol’ nasty email telling the manager blow by blow what had happened and how I would NEVER recommend (sp?) them to anyone, and in fact at that point in time I knew 3 girls just embarking on their dream dress hunt. I told her that word of mouth is a powerful thing and so is the internet.  I told her that you shouldn’t treat anyone the way she did me, and apparently once they have your $$$, they could really care less about you. Do you know that I got several calls from the sales girls at different points calling me to invite me to a girls night out at the salon, where there will be different vendors and of course you can try your dress on and we’ll jack you up with accessories. (duh, I already have my dress) another time they were calling to remind me that my dress was in. (really, I find that interesting since it’s hanging in my closet) They also called to remind me that we really need to get any alterations done as we are getting down to the wire. Every time they called I just let it go to voicemail and then was flabergasted that they were calling. I am one of those easy going, NONconfrontational people and was just so incensed that they ruined my moment and that this is the memory that I have.  I am so sorry that this happened to you, and it is my wish that no one else experiences this.

i would almost… almost say that it’s time to sue for the emotional trauma you went through. ESPECIALLY with her opening a dressing room curtain while you were not dresses… i’m pretty sure that’s gotta be illegal somehow.

What they did to you is truly heinous. If it makes you feel the slightest bit better, when you google “Katherine’s Bridal oldtown” your post is the fourth result. That means you are at the top of the search results for all to see.

I dont know how you were able to stay so calm. I dont take crap from anyone in retail/sales etc. You are paying THEIR bills and it is their responsibility to  make sure your dress is flawless. I wish I could have been there with you because I would have not let them treat you like that.  Seriously, those people need to be held accountable for their actions. I would NOT brush this off as a bad fitting, this is inappropriate. No one deserves to be treated inhumane and humiliated by a bunch of seamstresses.

If possible, I would return the earrings and let the lady lose her commission. Someone else can pay her rent.
