I agree with you.  I paid $550 for my dress (this includes alterations) and it is not a cheap looking, China made dress.  My entire wedding will be around the 10K mark, but I do NOT understand the $24K Dress budget!!  HOLY COW!

I totally agree!!! My wedding budget is somewhere between 10-12k. My dress cost roughly 1k with alterations, accessories. SYTTD is attempting to normalize spending half-a-years salary on a single gown. Ridiculous!!! Glad I am not the only one who feels this way!

Uh, I am super cheap. I couldn’t stomach the thought of spending tons of money on a dress either. My dress was custom made for me (by my mommy!) and cost less than a hundred bucks!

@jholler25: I would literally pass out on the floor if I even contemplated spending that much on a dang dress. 11k?? for an article of clothing? Can’t do it. lol

Yeah, I’m with you ladies! My dress was 1700, but I don’t know alterations b/c it’s still being made. The only reason I got it was because mom bought it for me/us. If she hadn’t, I probably would have ventured out to a pre-owned site for it, or gone for something more economical. Fiance and I could afford it on our own, I just can’t imagine spending so much on something I’m only going to wear one day for a few hours!!!

I completely agree.  I feel that way about a lot of things wedding related though, so I might be cheap.

The thing that gets me about the budgets on Say Yes to the Dress are the staff responses to lower ($2k) budgets. They all talk about how impossible/what a huge challenge it is to find something to fit the bride’s requests for that little money.

I watch this thinking, SERIOUSLY? When did $2k become chump change?

Do you guys think the show maybe has something to do with it?  Like the buyer pays less because they are on the show??  I don’t know how it works, and I REALLY don’t know who can even afford 11k for a dress!!  That’s a car!

I think you only see the outrageous brides on that show as well. They want the crazy budgets and ‘glamourous’ dresses especially if it is going to cause drama!

$16k is a deposit for a house.

We have a mortgage and I would much prefer the $$$ go to that and travel than a dress!

I am wearing a gently used VW also, then we are going on our honeymoon to Europe.

Its just priorities I guess!
