So, I’ve been a long time lurker- 9 months, not creepy right? I always worried about professional reasons not to do anything that could get back to you on the internet…but as of lately I figure I’ll be just fine.
My Fiance and I got engaged Feb 2013…with this beauty:
slight side view:
They may not be the best pictures, but I only have a select few on my phone at 1:50 am (not time for a photo shoot)
I have a 1 carat FB cushion moissantie in a Gabriel and Co. setting (14k, .5 ctw diamonds). My Fiance really surprised me with this, SIKE! I went with him to pick it out but all proposal deets were his doing. I wouldn’t change any thing about my ring, and i really love it. I lamented over it for months about not getting a diamond…always looking for alternatives because I couldn’t get over the prices (let’s be honest, it IS an industry). I knew what I wanted my ring to look like but I couldn’t handle asking someone to give me a $6,000 gift. I coulnd’t justify it in my own mind (i’m a tight a** when it comes to money, I’ll be the first one at the sale racks!). I did have my reservations about getting a moissy- i have to see things before I buy- SO I called every jewlery store EVER and finally found one that had moissy ear rings, went down there and the jewler asked me to pick out the moissy studs- I couldn’t, they all looked the same! I was sold. I picked out my setting (which is made for round shapes but the jewler did some mighty fine handy work to fit a cushion cut stone for me).
So when all is said and done- i love my moissy. I love it because of what it stands for, a symbol of what my Fiance and I share- Love.
And to all those ladies who are interested- don’t get discouraged. I went to another jewler who basically scoffed in my face, and you know what- he didn’t get my business. And I’m NOT knocking Diamonds at all, finacialy it wasn’t in our cards….I still have a half carat though 😉 It’s just a personal choice.
Also, personal small jewlers really put me at ease, compared to some companies I read horror stories over. There are probably 5,000 other details to share, I just forget!
SO excited to join the beloved BEE!

@TexasPeach: beautiful! I am looking into having a moissy set in a diamond halo as well with similar sized side stones. Are you happy with the way the diamonds look next to the moissy? From what I can see they look beautiful together! Do you mind also telling me what colour your side stones are graded at? Your ring has made me so excited to get mine 🙂

Thanks every one for such a kind welcome!
@blushbliss: I’m super happy with the combination 🙂 My side stones are graded at F. I was concerned that the combination would look strange, but I think it looks really good together. I also think our jewler (someone we didn’t know) was a big part at making it look really nice. People who care about their work make a big difference in my opinion.

congratulations and whoa, beautiful ring! i had this saved in my browser to view later, didn’t even see the title of the thread and thought “wow – what a diamond!” and only when i read the responses did i know it was a moissy. absolutely beautiful. i have ring regret now. i want a moissy haha.
do you have anyone IRL ask if it’s not a diamond? just out of curiousity?

@JL4SM: Nope! I’ve had someone grab my hand before and be like “What a beautiful diamond! yadda, yadda, yadda”…I’ll admit it was a man, and sometimes they don’t always notice everything but hes a seasoned ring purchaser (if you know what I mean)….
I tell people what it is, I have no problems with that. Most females I tell are into it and will all of the sudden tell me they have looked into it also or are going to. I did have someone be really nasty about it once, but she’s a little snot anyways. I can’t let other peoples standards phase me. My life isn’t about trying to keep up wth the jones’.
I look at it this way: it’s exactly what I wanted it to look like. If I ever lost it, I could replace the stone and I wouldnt need to sell my kidney. It’s a fascinating little stone that sparkles like crazy and will last for much longer than I’m around. I can’t take it with me when I go!

@TexasPeach: your ring is sooo lovely!! I too have a Gabriel & Co. cushion halo I just ordered. .39 carats! I am in the process of picking out which moissy i want. I think I am going to get a 1 ct FB round cut. The picture below shows a diamond in it, so i could see what it looks like.
