I’ve seen several posts recently about dress scams (money sent but no dress received, or bride selling a dress and the person sends a check for over the amount, etc.)
A couple tips to protect yourself:
1. When RECEIVING money, use either money order or paypal.
Money order is best. Go with a major brand, such as from the US Postal Service or Western Union.
If you receive money by PayPal, make sure you update the payment info with a tracking number when you mail the dress/item.
When shipping an item paid for via PayPal: Take detailed pictures of the dress/item, take pictures as you pack it up in the box so the picture captures the item and the adequate packing, take a picture of the sealed up box. This will help protect you if someone claims you didn’t pack well or you send a different item. You may have to prove yourself to PayPal and/or the scammer’s bank.
Make sure you have a number to track with; FedEx & UPS automatically do this; if sending US Postal Service get delivery confirmation. For extra protection, you can add the “signature required” option to any of the above shipping methods.
2. When SENDING money, send via PayPal, it offers more protection to get your money back if they don’t send you the dress/item.
