I haven’t done the warrior dash but in Seattle we have a “Pineapple 5k” every November which is a team obstacle course, everyone wears goofy outfits, does obstacles and has to finish the entire 5k as a team, with a pineapple that you carried through it in tact. I don’t know if there’s much diff between the warrior and pineapple… Our course is definitely slippery, wet, muddy etc… and its just kind of a chance you take of getting hurt but you also just slow down when you come to a place like that. Don’t go full bore all the way through if its not safe 🙂 Most people do this one for fun not for time, so if you have to slow down through obstacles that’s ok. I wouldn’t worry too much, you can always hurt yourself somehow so no reason to avoid a fun time just over that 🙂

I did this in June last summer, and I got some pretty gnarly bruises and scratches that were there for a long time. A friend of mine broke her wrist!! I remember last year declaring that there was no way I would do it this summer, because my wedding is September 1.

Honestly? I’d reconsider doing this before your wedding.  It’s obviously not like running a regular 5k – it’s nasty in every way possible with a lot of risk.  Dude even died last year from being a moron and diving into the mudpit…. but regardless, there’s a lot of room for error.  Don’t do it…. yet.

My sister did one and didn’t have any injuries.

@lyns86stc:  She was running down a hill and fell, and tried to stop her fall with her hands. That broke her wrist. She’s pretty competetive and was probably trying to be fast, which you could avoid for sure. There was also blood on her face, I can’t remember what happened there? I think she bit her lip!!

If you do decide to do it, wear kneepads.

My Darling Husband and I did one last year with no training. The people that got seriously injured or died dove into a less then 3 foot pit with a sign that says no diving. The obstacles were really anticlimatic for the descriptions and if you come across one that looks too dangerous you can run around it. We had a lot of fun and if I weren’t pregnant we would be doing it again this summer.

ETA: Those big turkey legs are pretty amazing!

@lyns86stc:  Wouldnt you rather lose the money than risk the injuries/scratches/whatever?

I’ve done the Warrior Dash and I LOVED IT!  It was so much fun!  It’s really not that bad nor risky.  The obstacles aren’t that rough and you can skip them if you feel like it (but I seriously doubt you’ll have to do that).  I ran with 3 other people and the only injury between the 4 of us was a small cut on my leg that healed within a week.  I think the worst thing that would happen to you is you get a sprained ankle and that would heal by the time of your wedding.  Don’t let people scare you, you can totally do it and you’ll be just fine.

If it makes you feel better, I’m running the Tough Mudder (which is like the Warrior Dash but 12 miles and with more intense obstacles) 3 weeks before my wedding.

@lyns86stc:  Oh and if you do decide not to do it you can transfer the registration to someone else. I actually bought mine from someone else last year since it sold out. I think this year there is a small transfer fee though.
