Ok, so, I am wearing my Nana’s dress. Sooooo excited. She designed it in 1956 and I love it! I was even more excited to wear it because my Aunt is a seamstress and offered to take of the alterations that I needed. Perfect!!! It was until my Aunt learned in a class that the changes needed to be made may beyond her ability and take waaaay more time than she can give. Bummer, but I completely understand and we still have plenty of time.
My question is, how much did others spend on dress alterations? Am I going to be sticker shocked? I would like to have the arms removed and cap sleeves built. Also, it is a wee bit too small so the fabric in the back doesn’t meet. We were going to change the high back to a v back. Am I crazy? Is this going to cost boat loads???

I think it depends on how much work needs to do and how difficult the fabric is to work with. I have spent $25 on alerations to get a dress hemmed & $75 to get a dress taken in & boning removed. It sounds like the work you need done could be a couple hundred dollars maybe . . . I might be wrong though!

I have my alterations appointment on Saturday, so I’m not exactly sure how much things will cost. But, I do know that reputable seamstresses will provide you with an estimate before work is done. Make appointments with a few seamstresses and take your dress with you and get their opinions.

my alterations on my dress were $250 but that was for a “french train” (5 loops) taken in around the chest, added a sweetheart neckline and taken in on the sides..but I also got mine done at davids bridal and they are insanely overpriced!
