- Wedding: April 2012
We had our respective bachelor/bachelorette parties this weekend. My sister and two of my FSILs (one of whom is a bridesmaid) were with me. My brother, Brother-In-Law, and two future FBILs were part of the group with my Fiance. So, the girls and I had a great time. At one point, I notice that my sister and one of my FSILs has stepped out. Someone told me that they had to make a call. Ok, no big deal. When my sister took me home, we turned on the news and it said that 5 people were shot downtown – pretty much right in the area where I knew Fiance and his party would be. I about lost it.
My sister then tells me that she had already found out about it before because another bridesmaid gets news alert texts. That’s why my sister and FSIL stepped out – they called their husbands and confirmed that all of our guys were ok, made sure they knew of the shooting and to be careful, etc. My sister told me that they didn’t tell me about it because they didn’t want to ruin my night if they could avoid it and, once they knew everyone was ok, there was no point in worrying me over nothing. I’m so glad that they handled it that way. I would have been terrified if I’d known about the shooting but couldn’t reach Fiance immediately. Even after knowing he was ok, I still went ahead and texted him and said that, given the shooting, I could really use a text saying he was ok (I thought – um, I know you’re not suppsoed to bug your guy during his bachelor party but this seems like a good exception!!). Bless his heart, he immediately texted back “I’m fine sweetheart.” I gave him the BIGGEST hug when I saw him the next day. I then learned that two members of his group were only about 1 street over from the shooting when it happened (they had gone to move their car to longer-term parking) and saw people running and screaming.
Anyway, just knew you ladies would understand the feeling of my heart jumping up into my chest!
