I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised about this, since it took the same hiring manager 2 weeks to schedule a phone interview with me…
I received a follow up email from the hiring manager last Wednesday telling me that they wanted to invite me to the university for an in person interview. Yay! This is a job I want SO BADLY.
He asked for my availability for the next 2 weeks and I responded right away with my availability for the following week (this week). I had 3 days available this week, but I don’t have my schedule for next week yet so I told him I would follow up when I get my next schedule if the dates I gave him didn’t work out. I haven’t heard back from him at all in 3 business days.
This is so frustrating! I only work part time so I have more than enough free time to get this interview done this week, if he would just get back to me. I’ll definitely be following up with him when I get my next schedule, but I’m wondering if I should have him suggest the day. I could always switch shifts with someone at my retail job.
Do you think that would help expedite the process, or would it make me sound less desireable (like I have nothing better to do)?

If it was a job I really wanted I would say “whatever works for them” and switch my schedule accordingly.

@Rizzo: ditto what you said!
I’m in the same boat, but not working. Luckily the job I just got called back for wanted an almost immediate interview, so I get to get it over with tomorrow morning after speaking with them today!!
Academic jobs can really drag their feet, in my experience. So sorry they are doing it to you 🙁

@crayfish: You’re not kidding, they really are dragging their feet! It seems like the larger the organization, the longer it takes to get through the hiring process. When I did hiring for my small department in a major hotel chain, there were a ton of hoops to jump through – for both me and the candidate.
I got my new schedule for the next 2 weeks so I followed up with my contact and also said I woud be willing to rearrange my schedule if needed. The guy told me he was doing both his job and the job I’m hiring for at the moment, so I’m sure he’s very busy. I’m also interviewing with multiple people, so it’s probably tough to coordinate all those schedules.
I already have my new suit, i’m so ready for this interview!
