Hi Bees !
Since Mama (my mother) has taken over the wedding, (my mom, who is a caterer, is catering the whole wedding) she prefers a venue that she has used on her other catering gigs. Especially since she is familiar with the kitchen, it is closer to her home, and she got the venue for a great price. I am really blessed my parents are able to put this together. No complaints !
I live in Philly whereas the venue is also in Philly but it is 24 minutes (on a good day) away. A lot of our friends live in the city and I think it would be a great treat to pay for a shuttle from one central destination in the city to the venue. In addition, we will have out of town guests ranging from Canada, California, Massachusetts, and Washington State.
Looking into prices, mini buses are a fortune !
What about a school bus ?
My wedding will be Big Fat Armenian/Ukrainian Wedding; it will be formal/casual- i am wearing a traditional dress with the jewerly etc.
I want to offer my friends/family free shuttle. I know I can do whatever I want but would free transportation (regardless of what kind) be appreciated ?

i think so , we are doing a shuttle as well and have decided on a school bus. We got a rate of around 630 for 9 hrs. The other shuttle services were just to much $$$.
Also when I spoke to the lady at the bus company she mentioned that they have busses that are only used for weddings . So they are in great condition.
Hope this helps!

@cperez0607: thanks ! I really appreciate your response. I think ideally it would be nice to have mini busses but for just a shuttle from one location to the other, why spend that much ? The more I think about it the more I come to the conclusion that free transportation is free transportation.
Are you also having your wedding in Philly ?

I think the school bus would be fun! I say go for it 🙂 I agree… free transportation is free transportation, and if they don’t want to ride the school bus, they can arrange for their own transportation.

@Beckster329: for real. If people don’t like it, they can get themselves over there. Thank you ! and I also think it will be fun, I will dub it the Wedding Bus and perhaps even ask if I can decorate it a little ;p

I think it sounds like a great idea. Its something I’ve considered too, since our ceremony site is about 25 minutes from the reception site. I just haven’t decided. We are also considering renting a shuttle take bring all of FIs guests to where we live for the wedding (every single guest of his is 8 hours away). Still have to look into it, but if I was a guest I would love it.
(also when I was in a sorority they offered us a shuttle from the campus to the dance, and it was great especially for people who wanted to drink, etc).
Would you have it running at different times, so guests could leave early if they wanted to?

@his chippymunk: I was thinking about that.
I think I would like to have 2 pick ups from the CC destination; the 2nd for anyone that may have missed the bus the first time.
As for the end of the reception, I will ask for several shuttles, I was thinking 3. Especially since for the bus to get there and back will range anywhere between 45-50 minutes.
The quote is a flat rate, you can use the bus as many times as you want.
If there is one couple that wants to go back earlier, then I will hope the bus will shuttle them back.
This is where having a wedding informational website is so helpful ! Where the location of the pick up & times will be posted. If anyone happened to miss the shuttle completely, I will list cab company numbers etc on there too.

I say go for it.
We are providing shuttles that are basically mini-vans and I asked Fiance if that was “classy enough”. His response- free transporation is very classy.
I would LOVE to rent a school bus 🙂

Hubby and I just had our wedding last weekend and we used 2 school buses — WAY cheapter than shuttles — We were quoted about 1400 for 2 shuttles for the time we needed them and our 2 school buses cost a total of 300 for THE ENTIRE NIGHT — Our guests thought it was awesome and had so much fun on the buses! I struggled with the “is this cheap” thoughts, but honestly, you’re being kind enough to provide transportation and your guests should be grateful for it!

@mglem89: where was your wedding and what bus company did you use? I got quotes of about $700 a school bus in New York. Thanks!

I live near Chicago and used a company from my hometown … we contacted the local bus company that buses the school kids in our area .. I’d try that .. but New York is probably going to be more expensive than a Chicago suburb! Hope this helps! Good luck!
