I’m a last year CJ major just now realizing I’d LOVE to be a counselor 😂 my SO is an elementary teacher and he has introduced me to the education world.. Luckily my school doesn’t require a certain major to be accepted into the masters program

I’m not a counselor, but my step-mom is a middle school counselor and she majored in psychology, minored in philosophy. Good luck! My step-mom loves it.

I’m a school pyschologist (slightly similar) and majored in Psychology Education with a minor in Middle School Math. I taught middle school math for several years before becoming a psych. Many of my cohorts didn’t major in an education related field (most were psych). If you haven’t looked into school psych, it’s pretty awesome!

i started out in psych, but I really like rules and the cj department was just awesome, seems like it wasn’t the best choice to change on my part :p
I’d love to do that! Either would be awesome for me, honestly
I really wanted to major in soc or criminology but my school didn’t offer it!

I was a Cj and soci major, I just graduated in May, but have thought about going back for school counseling or social work at some point in the future. I think you’ll be fine with Cj!

I was a psych major in college, but I didn’t decide to be a school counselor until later. When I applied to grad school, it was more important that I had some experience working with kids and showed a real passion for creating change. I’m sure any social services major will work just fine, and just take some time to actually work with kids or as a counselor of some sort before you get your Master’s. Good luck! I’m just starting my first year as an official school counselor- 6th grade! 🙂

I majored in Human Development for my BA, but am now in my second year masters program (and internship) as a school counselor, which I love! There is another girl in my program who majored in CJ which gives her alternate perspectives on many of the issues in the schools, which is a great perk! Good luck with your journey, it is a lot of fun!
