That is awesome!!! No joke, a few months before the wedding, my mom purchased an iron knight (DH and my school’s mascot).  Like something you’d see in a museum.  She was convinced we should have it at the wedding.  We didn’t end up brining it, but it lives in my parents house now and is hilarious to look at.

That would be awesome! My husband and I went to rival schools, so we just kept football out of it. But it would be really cute if you share an interest in it!

I’d love to, but people might think it a bit weird to have a Seminole riding in on an Apaloosa horse throwing a flaming spear!!  Haha!  I thought have having an ice sculpture made of our Unconquered statue or having the Grooms cake have something to do with FSU, but not sure what!

@Pupperoni: My fiance won’t have it, but we both went to UW madison and it’s common practice to rent out the mascot (Bucky) and a group from the marching band. I used to be in the band and although I never played a wedding, I always heard from others that it was a major hit!!!

Here’s a youtube video of the WI band at a wedding and it looks like everyone’s pretty into it.

Not sure if you’d do the band too, or just the mascot, but I thought I’d throw that out there!

I think it would be awesome. If you’re not too sure though, I think having an ce sculpture of the mascot like someone said would be pretty cool.

It would be cool especially if a number of your guests are also alums!

I had never heard of this until I went to grad school at NC State and Mr./Mrs. Wolf were rented out all the time for weddings. I say, if it’s important, go for it! It would be cute 🙂

I think that would be really cool if you had  people from your college there.  And if it is a really spirited school. That would be great. I have coached high school dance team and my girls  did a dance for their head coach and it was a really crowd pleaser. I also cheer at my college and have been to weddings where  the cheerleaders put up some stunts. I haven’t seen a mascot yet. But I think it would be a great photo op!

I think it would depend on what kind of school you went to. Most of the state schools my friends went to have very little spirit but I regularly see Baylor-themed weddings among FH’s friends’ fb albums. I know people who get Bruiser to come to (local) birthday parties so I guess weddings would be the next step.

If you do have your mascot come, make sure he has a spotter and it’s early enough in the evening that too many people aren’t drunk. And if there are, the spotter would need to fend them off. I was a costume character for a short time in high school and was punched, pushed and bitten by sober people, so depending on how your guests react it could go either way.

I honestly think this is FAB.  If you can swing, why the hell not?!

Do it!!

Our cake topper was actually a bride and groom version I had made of our school mascot, plus we had the DJ play our fight song. I loved it! Here are a few pics of my school representing, and then one of the “haters” putting up their school pride during our fight song 🙂

I think we’ll play the fight song during the wedding sometime (maybe the enterance??) but we don’t actually have a mascot. We’re the Chippewas, but since we’re on the chippewa reservation, we don’t want to “make fun” of the tribe, so we’ve adopted a letter as our “mascot,” so there really isn’t one.

It is pretty common here in the Midwest, especially for U of M / MSU alumni. I think it can be fun, but I would definitely wait until you’re well into your reception and past al the ‘events.’

Also, Nerdlove11- some of my brothers go to CMU. Fire up Chips! 🙂

Unfortunately I’m the sports fan, not Fiance.  I’d totally do it if we both liked sports though, considering we started dating when we attended the same college.
