I have always wanted to incorporate my FI’s Scottish heritage into our wedding, but since we are not actually Scottish, I have no idea where to start! His family is super into their heritage, even though they have been in the US for a long time.
We would like to do the pinning of the sash onto the bride, but we are not sure how it goes on or anything… If you could help us out, that would be great! I will be traveling to Scotland in January, so I was hoping I could pick up the sash and brooches there.

I don’t know too much about that particular tradition … I do know that at Scottish weddings the couple often uses a sword to cut the first slice of wedding cake, rather than a cake cutter – and I think that (at least if the bride’s family is Scottish) the bride & her family are supposed to give the sword to the groom as a way of welcoming him to the family …?
Sorry, maybe other Bees can confirm/correct/elaborate. I have a little bit of Scottish heritage, but it’s one of the lesser branches of a very Heinz 57 family, so the traditions have become pretty diluted.
