Hi Ms Kat! I went to a proudly Scottish college so know a few things…what would you think about doing a thistle on your invitation? Something like this? It would be subtly Scottish. ๐Ÿ™‚

You could bring in subtle touches of tartan such as the ribbon your bouquet:

My family just took part in a massive “Scottish-chic” themed wedding; everyone RAVED for weeks about it, and the photographs were absolutely stunning.  The family was super proud of their Scottish heritage so

– all the men in the family wore their clan’s kilts

– the men who weren’t part of the family wore custom ties with the family’s tartan

– they hired real-deal Scottish bagpipers to play during the procession, with a snare drum solo for when the bride made her entrance and walk down the aisle (this gave people chills)

– the bride was presented with the clan’s tartan sash during their vows

– the clan’s motto was used throughout the stationery

Obviously their goal was to make it an obviously Scottish-themed wedding, but incorporating ideas on a smaller scale would easily make for a more ‘subtle’ approach.  I love the idea for the flowers!

I’ve never seen anything like it before, was truly original and a day to celebrate. =]

I’m having a bagpiper too!  I was thinking of adding the Scottish thistle to my bouquet and have the guys wear the thistle for their boutonnieres (apparently a Scottish tradition) but I know florists see it as a weed so it’s not something you can just order. We’ll see though…

I believe there were two bagpipers and one percussionist/drummer with the snare drum, and they played kind of off to the side/behind the guests, so as not to distract/overpower.  It was amazing!
